When you mentioned the factionalism within the Khmer rouge I had to look up the background of the leaders. Most of the ones at the top (including Pot and the guy who ran Toul Sleng) were Sino-Khmer. Any ideas on why that might be?

Failing crops and afterwards spiking food prices tend to break the fault-lines in a society, which were hidden as long as things went well. So lets hope you are not in the ground zero of the next big wave of insurgencies.
