Hi Patrons! We don't do enough behind the scenes here. So, let's change that. Here's a little look into the recent Firmware 6.0 vs 2.51 video.

This one was a simple video on the surface. I could have gotten away with some simple voice over, with the resulting footage of the Firmware comparison. But because the idea is inherently simple, I had to do something else to spice it up a bit and give it that presentational 'oomph' it needed.

Pictured above is me shooting some simple b-roll of both PS4's that will be used in this video. Trying different angles both close and far away, so you can have something to look at while I do a quick explanation about the test itself.

Now again, because this video is inherently simple, I could have gotten away with just simple text, and throwing in the footage. Instead I put a dynamic background behind the footage of the firmwares. Look familiar? It's the PS4's usual dynamic splash in the background. I felt this added an extra layer of polish that looked much better than say, a solid black background.

As you can see from the pictures above, this is also pretty straight forward. I need to capture the PS4's menu, and I need it clutter free as possible. Scrolling over to settings/power gives the top portion of the screen freedom of text or overlays. From there we capture the footage, and crop out the bottom menu elements from the PS4. While this does degrade the quality because we're zooming into 1080p imagery, I felt this was still fine given it's only purpose is a more visually appealing background.

Anyway, that's about it. Testing the firmwares and editing them was the easy part. But making them look better took a little extra. Hope you enjoyed this, and will totally be trying to do this more often!
