I loved this adaptation, but I was surprised how much darker they were able to take Ursula though. They actually changed her from a soul stealing witch to a homicidal maniac. The sea life that attacking Ariel as she was going in Ursula’s cave was not warning Ariel they were attacking, they were not the strange creatures from the original. The strange creatures that were the victims of Ursula getting their soul that you saw from the original were the dead bodies and skulls that you saw in Ursula’s cave (she also alludes to that in the Poor Unfortunate Soul performance when she is talking about the people we’re not able to complete the deal and when she does that each tentacle is holding up a skull). When you lost the deal with her Ursula not only snatched your soul but your life too in this film. So when King Triton gets electrified by the eels at the end he is actually dead and his Trident is what brings him back to life. Definitely much darker Ursula than the animated version.
