This was the last movie in India where freedom of speech was allowed and the media used to question the Government.....we don't see these kinds of movies anymore.

At somepoint in our life. we hindi people were afraid to come out of our closet. We want to speak to the goverment but they never listen to us and they be violent with us. After watching this movie. Hindi people came out of their closet and started protesting against goverment and we have free speech. Thank you aamir khan. Since then we have aamir khan picture in our preyer room. Preying him for giving us great character and how to protest. We would also lock ourself in the house.

Steph and Andrew, loved the watchalong and review. Wanna tell you some important things: 1. Laxman was calling Aslam a Paki not because he is Pakistani. In India, there have been some instances where "Paki" is used as a slur for Indian Muslims, which is obviously hurtful and alientating. Nothing wrong in being Pakistani but it others the person who's at the receiving end. Having said that, you inference didnt affect anything because Pakistani and Indian freedom fighters did fight side by side against the British. 2. The character Laxman that you loved is played by veteran and excellent actor- Atul Kulkarni. He's a popular and critically acclaimed actor. Has done many regional Marathi films too.
