I feel Dream's reconnection to humanity post-capture; to remember not everything is so hopeless and dire. Both his sister and Hob remind him that hope/happiness/meaning can be found in things. It is not all hopeless in the world/with humanity. Oh, and that Dream didn't need to be so alone and could allow 'people' into his 'life'. And, Dream is a bit of an asshat. He follows rules but he is not very emotional about it. So, it's also about character development. You'll see.
