The detective was based on Byomkesh Bakshi. The same guy, Rajit Kapoor, played him in a tv series a couple of decades back

The detective is based on a famous detective character Byomkesh Bakshi written by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. The character appeared in many stories, tv series and films. The actor who played the role here also played the same role in one of the best adaptation of the writing. It was refreshing to see him again. Also Sushant singh rajpoot did a movie on this character for which you did a trailer reaction.

And this detective character - Byomkesh Bakshi is from Bengali Literature (hence, kolkata).

And there was a earring picture with Maanvi's name in the title track PROBABLY because her surname Gagroo soungs like Ghoongru - which is a jewellery with tiny metallic bells around it , similar looking to the one in the picture :)

It was definitely a commentary on the Sushant Singh movie not being that great.

The more archaic stuff like the dial-up and the super-slow tram is I suppose a way to portray Kolkata as well. Even though it is a big city, in some aspects it is a time travel to older times. It is kind of laid back and not that commercialized like other cities like Mumbai or Delhi.
