Why Is India's Economy Growing So Fast PATREON

Comments

Anurag Rana

Video seems pretty balanced. GST was supposed to disrupt the economy for a year, which it did. But it doesn't highlight that this change incentivises tax compliance, and in the long run government will have more money to run development projects as a result. Caste system has two opposing effects. It is true that higher castes hold a lot of positions of power, so the entry barrier for backward castes is made higher due to favoritism. However, all government educational institutions and jobs have 49% reservation for backward classes. This means that sometimes a more talented higher caste person might miss out and a comparatively less talented person might get the job due to reservation. Not sure which effect holds back the economy more.

About the cast system: Since people from lower castes were extremely oppressed until around 70 years ago, the government introduced these “reservations” in various institutions. For jobs as well for studies. For example in IIT’s, which are one of the elite institutions of India, around 50% of the seats are reserved for less than 25% of the students giving the exam. When I gave the IIT entrance examination few years ago, I scored 135, which gave me nothing. I was ranked around 26,000. However had a lower cast student scored the same, s/he would have landed up in IIT-Bombay. We couldn’t even have dreamt of IIT-B if the score was less than 300. What’s worse? Many lower cast parents have already benefited from the reservation and now are one of the richest in the country, however, their children will still use the reservation and get a super head start in the race of life. Where as there are many upper caste people who are actually very poor, and they don’t even get reservation of any kind. Currently except for the extremely rural areas, no one really cares about the caste. Yes, it does come up in match making (arranged marriage) and might continue to do so in the future (which I am against, of course), but there is zero oppression today. I think if the government really wants to continue reservation, they should do so not based on caste, but based on the annual income of the family. This way only poor people, no matter what caste they are, will get good benefits.

2022-02-04 18:03:51 Jaby have look at this map. This is how politics is runned. BJP is the majority. You will understand why south is different & north is different. I can only blame the population of india. Their is married couple who have 12 kids in a household. Why you want 12 kids? How are you going to feed them. How are you going to send them to school? How are you going to pay your medical bill. These are the type of people end up eating the majority of the indian resources which india lost majority of it resource during british colonization. How are people is going to get opportunity in field & education if india has big household family members. I rather have two kids and make sure they are well taken care off and are successfull in their life. Stop blaming reservation & cast system. You are getting poor by having more kids. https://www.mapsofindia.com/assemblypolls/state-assembly-leading-parties.html
