The imprinting is complex. Imprinting has different stages, starting with a sibling-like bond and eventually progressing to romantic love. Its also involuntary. They can't help it when it happens. Yes, its controversial but if you read the books and see how Quill imprints on a kid too? He's just a protector, nothing sinister at all in THAT sense whilst they are young. The books explain more regarding it than the movies do. So? Jacob isn't the only one to imprint in that way. It sounds weird, yes, but they start of just as a protector, nothing more than that at all. In fact? Jacob even tries to get Quill to start dating others, even though he's imprinted. The book needs to be read to understand it. I get why people think its wrong, its just explained more and that's something they should have done in the movie imo - they'll do anything even just as a protector to protect them. Like a guardian angel almost. Edward knows, by reading Jacob's mind, Jacob DOESN'T even feel or think once that way about her at discovering that she'll be a fully grown adult in just 7 years. He just wants Renesmee to be happy and safe. That's why they can handle it. Otherwise? I think it would have been a different story. Jacob is only just turned 17 too, he's a year younger than Bella in human years. Bella is only just turned 18 when she marries Edward. And Jacob's aging has slowed as well - Renesmee could even end up older than Jacob if they ever got together later on or? He'd just be 4 human years older (or in slowed aging wolf years younger than her when she reaches 21 and stops aging) As I said. Its complex. Hard to explain, understandable how others who've not read the books (The third and fourth one explain it fully) to think otherwise. The imprinting is portrayed as magical, rather than physical. I hope this helps for when you watch part 2.
