Gummie bears, bouncing here and there and everywhere. High adventure that's beyond compare.

Alex Koder

Webby is actually the daughter of Aunt Magica. She's a homonculus created to get Scrooge's #1 Dime. Problem is she hit hee head, forgot everything and was then raised by Beakley. That's why Lena was sent in.

Alex Koder

Ooh next episode is when Scrooge does that Magical Girl transformation. Mosco is going to love that.

Omegon

the Bouncy Juice and the whole setup are a reference to another Disney animation from the 80s. Adventures of the Gummi Bears, in case you wanna check it out.

My Mother in Law is a hoarder. Problem is...she's got 4 fucking houses full of shite. I shudder at the work involved in trying to find the stuff to keep amongst all the trash.

So, the SHUSH agency was a play on SHIELD from Marvels Avengers that they made for Darkwing Duck, which I find amusing because the adventure that takes place in an ill defined time period patterned after the 60s/70s was a play on a spy show from that time called The Avengers which had nothing to do with Marvel. The writers on this show just had so much fun combining every bit of pop culture they could remember and smashing them together in such an interesting way.

So, a big part of this episode is based on an older reference that younger audiences might miss. Scrooge's whole umbrella scene is a callback to the classic movie *Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 2* which is where Scrooge gets his famous catchphrase, "I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!" It's meant to explain that while Scrooge may not have been the father, he likes it when you call him Daddy.

Among all the other references, I love the sheer confusion and not knowing the direct reference to The Prisoner with the Rover.

I can literally hear the gears turning in your head during that big realization pause moment, Mosco 😂 In all honesty, I'm super excited that you're enjoying Ducktales and I hope that you continue to enjoy it through to the end.

21:51 what? nah! scrooge and beakley doesn't have a son named turbo! what are you talking about?!

The number of story threads that actually tie together are amazing. The Spear of Selene was actually the power source for Gyro's time tub. When Della used it to adventure in the past, against Scrooge's wishes, she caused paradoxes and anomalies so severe that the Time Variance Authority had to extract her younger self from the time-line. You were right that "Webby" is related to Scrooge; she is, in fact, Della Duck. Beakley is actually a time agent sent to look after Della and raise her in her own future before she can be replaced in the time-line to become the boys' mother. Notice how Beakley "just happened" to know everything her "boss" knew about the mission? This connection to the MCU was first hinted at in Guardians in the form of Howard the Duck. I was over the moon that Dana was able to spin such an intricate story for Della.

"The Man with the Golden Everything" is of course a riff on the James Bond book "The Man with the Golden Gun." And since this is a spy story... To be fair, Launchpad not being able to see where he's going is probably safer than usual. Castle Dunwyn, The Great Book, the silhouette we see, they're all from the 80's Disney show "Gummi Bears." Ducktales make a lot of references to 80's Disney TV cartoons. The "orb" is a nod to the 60s show "The Prisoner." "Gummi Berry Juice" allowed the Gummi Bears (or ducks, apparently) to bounce like rubber balls. With humans, it granted super strength. Effects of both were temporary, of course.

Alex Koder

Mos think about it. Webby has grown up in the mansion for years. It's expected of her to pick up some habits or mannerisms of her Granny & Scrooge. Besides, you think Scrooge would have know if he had a Granddaughter.

Omegasigma

I think the flashbacks are supposed to be in the 60s and based off James Bond

Fun fact, Black Heron’s voice actress, April Winchell, is the daughter of Paul Winchell, who voiced one of the lead characters in the show “Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears”, which was part of the original Disney Afternoon and is, obviously, referenced in this episode. I find it heartwarming that the DuckTales crew gave April the opportunity to engage in / contribute even more to her father’s legacy.

Annieme

I’m excited for the timeskip episode where we see webby leading a normal-ish life, running a donut shop with a pirate

This was such a fun reaction! Your genuine joy over watching this show makes these easily my favorite reactions every week! The deep lore! The good stuff! A Scrooge and Webby adventure! I truly loved this for them! And I promise this won't be the last adventure! Ah yes! The Gummi Bears! This was part of the Saturday morning lineup when I was little. Fun fact (and a bit of Joey lore you didn't ask for): Sunni Gummi was one of my very first cartoon crushes. Something I struggled to comprehend as a child, on account of what she was. But as I got older, wiser, more worldly, (2nd grade. We learned cursive there. And chapter books. Of course, I was already ahead of the curve there.) I grew to realize that my feelings were perfectly valid! There was absolutely nothing wrong with crushing on a tomboy. Later that year, Disney afternoons introduced me to Gadget Hackwrench, and I was well-traveled enough as to not deny my feelings this time around!

At 23:17 Piranhas actually CAN bite through metal, and WILL try to eat anything if they're starving enough. It's how they got they're reputation, Some Amazon locals blocked a section of river, starving a school of them, and let them skeletonize a cow in front of President Teddy Roosevelt. Normally, though, when they're not starving, they eat already dead things and are actually pretty timid.

Dan_Ganing_Fan

18:15 I think you misheard. Scrooge didn't bid any of his own money. He said S.H.U.S.H. gave him $60,000 for the mission, and after the bid went higher, he refused to chip in. He completely jeopardized the mission because he's that cheap, even with the fate of the world at stake. Classic Scrooge.🦆💰

For the sake of keeping your sanity intact, and making sure your perception of the show doesn't get warped, I will confirm right now that Webby is NOT!! Scrooge's granddaughter. I don't know how you'd jump to that. Really think about it rationally. Scrooge would know if he had a child, let alone a granddaughter, and taken interest in them by now. Webby's just lived in the mansion her whole life and been fascinated by Scrooge the whole time. Of course she would've picked up some of his habits and mannerisms. Also, does Scrooge seem like the type to potentially waste money on having his own kids, or have an heir to pass down his fortune to? Do you think Beakley's the type who would "do it" with Scrooge, or date a man at least twice her age? That's just creepy. Disney does some questionable things, but they would never go there and risk ruining one of their biggest legacy characters. So don't fear, you can rest easy knowing your crackpot theory is completely unfounded and false. Seriously, please forget this theory, it's so uncomfortable.

Ok Mosco your moments of “hold up, wait a minute, put the car in reverse” was genuinely amazing to see😂😂 So glad you’re having so much fun with Ducktales. Things just get so much better from here too

Sam Marsh

“Gummi Bears, bouncing here and there and everywhere, high adventure that’s beyond compare, they are the Gummi Bears”.

Blaze

dude, can you not spread this misinformation here? magica only had one son and it was jet!

Jessica V

I just assumed it was because Webby grew up hearing about her grandma and Scrooge's adventures.

In the original Ducktales (1987), I believe Webby also called Scrooge "Uncle Scrooge"; this episode is the origin of this version of her character calling him that as well. If there is one thing this show does really well, it is the way it does its callbacks to the original source material... and then uses it in brand new and creative ways, while respecting the source material while doing so! Take for example, S.H.U.S.H. and F.O.W.L., both present in this episode; F.OW.L. made a singular appearance in the original DT87, and was reused/expanded on in Darkwing Duck (the 90s IRL show), where they also gave it the counter organization, S.H.U.S.H, yes the same one Agent 22 and Scrooge worked for 😁 It's a rarity, and refreshing, when the majority of modern-day reboots lately have done exactly the opposite AND have all been poorly executed on top of that.

As god as my witness I thought ducks (and herons) could fly.

The 'mystical creatures' referenced by the Great Book page was an unexpected reference to the Gummi Bears (and their magical bouncing potion), another Disney cartoon from the '80s. https://youtu.be/yYZH7B498gE

2024-07-26 03:35:53 I agree I was with my Great Aunt and she was needed to do chores she sat her toddler (she’s 3years old) down and played Cocomelon I felt like I was getting dumber watching it with her. I suggested Super Monsters my aunt did agree and it turned out the kid loved it.
