My favorite theory is that the original Pomni put on the headset, took it off, and went on with her life. Meanwhile the brainscan it took is now being used to create this personality. An imperfect simulation of the mind might explain why none of them can remember anything from before the circus.

Caine tries to keep them from going insane, but his actions are always pushing them over the edge because he doesn't understand humans. However the imagery of the group saving Pomni from falling, and her smiling shows the actual thing keeping them sane and happy is each other. Which makes me worried about Jax since he is the most distant from the group.
