INT. ROSE'S BEDROOM
Close-Up on a black, square alarm clock. A hand slams it off. ROSE TYLER sits up in bed, gathers herself for a second. She's 19, her bedroom's a mess, she's got another bloody day at work, and she's so much better than this.

That was how RTD introduces Rose Tyler in the shooting script of 2005's 'Rose', written around 20 years ago. With Russell returning as 'Doctor Who' showrunner and bringing in new companion Ruby Sunday, I thought now was a good time to go back and examine how the writer took the maligned and often throwaway role of the "Doctor Who Girl" and crafted a character specifically designed to resonate with audiences. Let's dive into how Billie Piper was the unexpected, yet perfect choice to embody this role and why Russell's obsession with 'The X-Factor' might be the key to understanding her 13-episode arc.
