Feels like he's leaning college pitcher for pick 22, which I think is a smart move for this class and for the depth of the system. For pick 29, it seems like they'd like to take a risk on an up-the-middle prep bat with the right combination of makeup and potential. Shortstop Arjun Nimmala seems to perfectly fit the mold. He has that humble confidence and quiet drive they seem to covet with a really good shot to stick at short long-term. The risk is he's power over hit, just as Scott mentioned when considering a guy for this spot. My guess is it'll take about $6M to get him to sign, maybe more to beat other teams. That's pretty steep, but this is the year to do it with about $13M to spend. Last year, pick 22 was worth about $3.2M, pick 29 and 30 were each about $2.5M. You can go slot value on a college pitcher at 22, go overslot at 29 to get Nimmala for $6.5M, and still have $3.3M to spend on the rest of the draft. Gives you enough to go pretty big at pick 60 and look for value in the lower parts of the draft as they always do. I like Kevin McGonigle, Dillon Head, Cooper Pratt, and Will Gasparino in this spot too, although, as far as I can tell, none of these guys hits the nail on the head combining makeup and potential like Nimmala does, although Gasparino and Head come close for me. Fun conversation!

Yeah, I agree. I've given it more thought since my comment and think he's probably not going to slip out of the top 15. Problems with the hit tool could change that, I suppose, but probably not. Earlier I was thinking a team could offer him top 5 money to get him to slip some, but that's not actually a thing that could stop another team from drafting him, as far as I understand. The good thing is that there seems to be a lot of really interesting upside high school talent with good makeup I'd like as much, maybe moreso, even if Nimmala is out of reach. Thanks for the feedback. :)
