"Jem" is an animated television series from the 1980s that follows the dual life of Jerrica Benton, a young music company owner, and her rock star alter ego, Jem. The show is a whirlwind of glamour, fashion, and catchy music as Jem and her band, the Holograms, rise to stardom. However, a particularly perplexing aspect of the show is Jerrica's relationship with her love interest, Rio. Jerrica, as herself, is involved in a romantic relationship with Rio, but so is her alter ego, Jem. Throughout the series, Jerrica keeps her identity as Jem a secret from Rio, engaging him in an unintentional love triangle. This dynamic is often viewed as Jerrica gaslighting Rio, as she entices and romances him using both identities without revealing that they are the same person. This adds a layer of psychological manipulation to their relationship, as Rio is unknowingly torn between two personas that are, in reality, the same individual.
