The Oscar class SSGN was a marvel of engineering designed to sink American carrier fleets. In reality, it would have cause havoc and sunk many ships in the U.S. convoy fleet including an aircraft carrier.

Not so sure back then how effective it would have been. We had a bead on every one sailing. Soviets Would have been sunk prior to engagement of surface convoy or attack fleet. Even with escort subs protecting these missile boats. Today, thanks to John Walker, Israel breech of what they stole from USA, French and UK breaches, things would be different. Their systems are improved. While we have dumped, not improved or replaced combined arms approach to ASW. We (USA) are still good, but far from our previous effectiveness of multi-facet intel of Russia (now China) subs, their movements, orders, and capability. Our Cold War+ non sub undersea, surface, land, space, aircraft systems have been killed off. With thin replacements. If we do have some replacements,few in quantity, plus new systems IP has been compromised (by high traitors within our ranks that make John Walker look like a first grade shoplifter of candy), DOD/contractor uber bad moron mountain cyber security.. From the likes of Lockheed (plus other companies) and .gov systems. People like Rickover, Craven, and many others unknown to us are not numerous today (or exist at all). Those in DC run by their corporate taskmasters together ruin much of independent transformational .mil thought.
