Outstanding and professional brief as always. Fascinating to hear that China has a submarine shipyard basically in the middle of the country, I always assumed they designed them in Wuhan and built them by the ocean. I think back in 06 there was an incident where one of the Songs surfaced in the middle of a carrier group, I was interested in your take on that.

Sorry I'm late to the party! Is it me or does the periscope look like it has a conventional eyepiece above the camera, level with the brim of the guys hat at 30mins. It looks like a conventional penetrating mast with basic photographic ability.

Yu means fish, in case of the torpedo name. Yuan is the name of a Chinese dynasty, so is Qing, Ming, Han, Tang, Shang, Zhou, Qin, Song, Jin, Wei, etc. Chinese tends to use names of major cities for surface ships, especially capital ships, and dynasty names for modern submarines. Note: these Chinese pronunciations is not unique to any single Chinese character. You slaughtered almost all the Chinese pronunciations XD.
