It's a combination of Kilo II and Japan's Soryu.  Interesting Hybrid design. The difficult thing about China's Navy is I haven't found reliable sources.  If anyone has a recommend source that discuss China's ships and submarines, leave it in the comments. Thanks.

Hi Jive, long time lurker, first time poster here. Given the lack of publically available or translated information on Chinese sub systems, maybe Thai or Pakistani sources are more easily accessible given they are export customers of the Yuan.

I have a book, The Worlds Greatest Submarines, ISBN; 978-1-78274-482-5, Author David Ross, in the book on page 180/181 it talks about Type 039 (Song) and Type 041 (Yuan). Not a lot of info but interesting reading.
