Nice work as usual Jive, I look forward to these lectures in between my cold waters battles.

I'm guessing modern submarine nuclear reactors are somewhat different to the Nautilus? or do they still operate under the same primary and secondary loop conditions?

Anonymous

As far as I know, almost all reactors operate with that.

Hey, is it just me, or does the submarine depicted on the "Board of Inspection and Survey" emblem look a lot like a November class? (Shown at 23:44)

Anonymous

Yes it does😉

does anybody know where I could find the dimensions of a Virginia class sub? like the size of the conning tower, bow planes, rudder, ect.? I am trying to make an RC Virginia.

Cool. Whats your design process like? Are you using CAD like software at all? I found some drawings that you can get 2d relative size and dimensions from and then scale to what ever size you need in a photo manipulation software. Here some links. https://free-clipart-pictures.com/images/submarine-drawing-virginia-uss.png https://www.rcsubs.cz/images/Modely/Virginia/virginia-plans.jpg

well I am going to use a pvc pipe for the hull but then 3d print the bow and stern sections and also all of the control surfaces and conning tower. I am using a software called FreeCAD it seems easier to use than some others. I have never done anything like this before though so we will see how it turns out! thanks for the reply!

the sub will be 1/90 scale so that's 50" long! i am crazy but i am having fun so far lol

Ahh. This brings back childhood memories of visiting the sub museum every time I could nag my mother to drive me there. I knew that place like the back of my hand after a while.

I just visited the museum recently. It's near the US Coast Guard Museum, which is also worth a visit.

Rickover, the original Top Gun.

Rickover is the type of professional who is unmoved by difficulties, which breaks conventions and rules conscientiously to achieve his goals. They are rare, and not every one of them is successful. These are the type of men that sometimes humanity needs.

The Nautilus FB page has a really cool video series going into the boat today, lots of cool footage, facts, etc. https://www.facebook.com/USNSubforceMuseum/videos/?ref=page_internal

I didn't know that Adm. Rickover was an EDO. I qualified as an EDO in 1985.

subbrief

He qualified his watchsatations and Command qualified in Groton, while being stationed in Philadelphia. They guy was motivated.
