Over time, the F-35A has grown on me. Not sure if she's the best fighter in the world, but she can coordinate an attack from the air like a General.

If the pilots were equal, what fighter could best the F-35A in a dogfight? (1v1) (2v2)

IMO, we civilians will all need to acknowledge that the sexy, violent, action-movie stuff that is popularly associated with combat and war was never really all that associated with success, strategic or otherwise. As technology advances, human virtues like bravery, skill, and even combat experience will increasingly give way to a colder, harsher, technological and economic race. Say what you will about how weird and chaotic the F35 program was... They did Integrate some insane sensors and communication equipment into a supersonic stealth fighter that can be manufactured en mass. Maybe at this point it's less about the performance or reliability, and more about if you could even do it in the first place.

With both pilots being equal, that means they understand not only the strengths and weaknesses of their own fighter, but the other as well. In that case I think it’s a coin flip assuming the other fighter is a post Vietnam era design with reasonably modern missiles.

Speed, range, detectability (both ways)... Raptor.... no matter sensors, if both can see each other and let's say have the same weapons' ranges; it goes back to the facts: they both see each other about/around the same range; its speed, altitude, endurance, and and missle "defendability." Same old determining factors as early days...
