I’ve never done the expression sheet because I’ve always felt it was one more way to further put off the scary prospect of “making the actual comic.” I’ve gone through lots of corner cutting schemes to make the comic go faster. Super loose roughs (end up spending more time doing less quality linework). Skipping the warm up (again, quality suffers). And of course, minimal character prep (characters look too similar, lacking life, lacking character!)

So this time around, I’m saying “no” to my fears. Stepping deep into thorough pre-production. Harnessing finished ideas for what my figures, outfits, faces, and expressions look like. By the time I’m done, maybe I’ll find that this practice dramatically ups the quality of my work. Maybe I’ll find it helpful, but not worth the time. But by the end of Ep3, I’ll have an answer to the question I’ve been avoiding all these years: “prep work, how much is the comic benefitting from it?”
