It’s June 24th, 1982, and the unthinkable has happened on board a British Airways Boeing 747. All four engines, have suddenly failed, miles above the In dian Ocean. Without power, the massive plane is now descending. The pilots have mere minutes to restart the engines, before they, and their 261 passengers and crew, meet their demise in the ocean below.

What follows is an incredible tale of grit, teamwork, and above all, coolness under pressure. And, I’ve invited the captain himself to tell the story. This is the story of British Airways flight 9.
