Been a patreon since you put it up, and it's honestly been the most value i ever got for my money! It's one thing getting to hear your perspectives on music, but what really makes it special for me, is the advice you give, and your way of making me understand my life better! Thanks so much for being you, and sharing your journey with us!

Bob I recommend doing Faces before Swimming. For chronological sake, you’ll understand the new albums and his references if you listen to that one at least!

Hey Bob, I've hesitated to mention his name for a variety of reasons, but I think you've reached a point in your youtube journey where chief keef would be an appropriate listen. Keef occupies an interesting place in rap history; he blew up in the early 2010s as a teenager during the blog era and, despite limited radio play after his first few hits, maintains a massive underground following. In my opinion he's easily the most influential rapper of the current decade. He popularized the drill subgenre, which is known for its extremely violent lyrics, dark beats, and global influence. This is often a less-emphasized point, but Keef's experimental nature has always set him apart; early in his career he worked with a lot of the early-2010s trap producer as well as drill pioneers like young chop, but he also produces a lot of his own beats and popularized a lot of the idiosyncracies of the "mumble rap" production style. He's always been controversial, but his legacy is undeniable. Out of the artists you've heard, Carti, Travi$, Later Kanye and Peggy are probably the most heavily influenced by Keef, but the entirety of the new trap scene (Yeat, Uzi, soundcloud and mumble rappers) is steeped in his style. You heard his feature on Hold My Liquor, but I'd suggest his debut Finally Rich as your first listen. It came out after a string of underground releases and mixtapes but most of his big early hits are included as well as a few more out-of-the-box tracks. 4NEM, Finally Rollin 2, and Back From The Dead 2 are also great picks.

This might be weird to say but Chief Keef is underrated. Yes, his early work, such as Finally Rich, is given a lot of credit for how influential it is to contemporary artists. But a lot of his work after that has flown under the radar. He has continued to quietly innovate on what he does going deeper and deeper into his own world. He could have went pop and made cross over hits but he didn't and that's pretty cool. In this way I think his legacy as an artist is underappreciated.

Absolutely agree, part of why it was hard to recommend him sooner is definitely the fear that it won't generate much traction. Bob's audience is growing though so I think it's a good time. Also want to add that Keef is also wildly underrated as a lyricist/vocalist, he innovated the trap rap trend of using humor to underscore an aura of not giving a fuck both syntactically and melodically.

Rasha Rahman

I messaged Bob this a few months ago hes definetely interested in doing it and has gotten it requested a handful of times. I think there is just so much mainstream stuff that one should listen to in hip hop that its hard to move into that, but would make sense to set aside one listen to newer underground stuff / that side of rap in general

Josh

Congratulations bob this is awesome
