Some photos from Japan. There's a larger album here, if anyone's interested.

If you ever get a chance to go, I'd absolutely recommend it.  I thought it would be cold in November, but around Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto, the weather was quite nice - around 60° F during the day - and the foliage was in full color.  Make sure you pick up your Ghibli Museum tickets ahead of time. They only let a certain number of people in every day. There are original concept drawings and background paintings everywhere. Not encased behind glass....just tacked right to the walls.

Contrarily, I'm not so sure I would recommend the Unholy Blue Sonic The Hedgehog Curry we found. (Ended up being a joke gift for a friend.)

I got some great wallpapers for my collection out of that, thanks!

Gorgeous. If you do make it back to Japan, please let me know ahead of time. My university loves to host guest speakers, and they'll pay a decent honorarium that should cover the cost of going a little out of your way to Norther Kyushu. (And we've got some great things to see and do around here, too. My city, for example, has a tiny shrine that holds the bones of a titanic mermaid. You can examine and even hold the bones if you arrange it with the priest ahead of time. They're cow bones, according to my veterinarian cowriter, but the mermaid art in the temple is still gorgeous.

Thanks, David! That sounds truly fascinating. If I ever formulate plans to travel back to Japan, I'll be sure to say so!
