For my birthday this year, I took a little day trip out to the Ozarks with a friend.  We stopped at the Missouri Mines site - a defunct galena (lead ore) mining facility handed over to the state parks system upon its closing - to explore and take some photos of this brick and metal wasteland.  I learned a lot while there and put together this little album in case anyone else (besides Wick) is interested.

Anyway, this was an exploration of the topside of a large Missouri mining operation.  Next, I hope to visit some of the mines themselves.  They're more like massive caverns in the limestone underground than like the narrow mine shafts one would tend to think of first, and apparently they're an impressive sight to behold.  I'll be sure to take more photos!

Great pictures. Your choice of the word "ruins" in the file names makes me think, our ancient ruins are going to look a lot different than those from generations past. We're used to thinking of "ruins" as crumbling stone columns from bygone castles, or buried cities lost to natural disasters. The ruins of the modern ages are quite different, with their steel skeletons and old rusted-out machines, their uses lost on the ignorant layman. I'm sure the mine workers never gave much thought to that place ending, as we see buildings, factories and monuments around us that we just assume will last forever. But they won't, not really. I think these sentiments are being fueled by my listening to The Dark Tower books.

I love it when my favourite creative people take the time out to explore sites and nature. Not only great to get some fresh air but to get inspired and do research for your creative IP. The only thing missing is a well dressed up Wick with his cane and top hat. Where is he in these pictures?! Nevertheless thanks for sharing Tracy! I've saved these on my 'Lackadaisy' folder to fill up my visual library of the series too. 8-) I love it.
