While the guards led me into the Raiden sisters tower, I couldn't help but shiver feeling the dense feeling of spiritual energy filling the tower and seeing my reaction the lead guard chuckled with a smile while explaining. "Lady Makoto spent a great deal of effort making the formations that absorb the Fog at the top of the tower, that then purify the rampant and violent energies within the fog and then disperse the pure energy within the tower." The guard explained patiently and then snorted as he went on to mutter about how the guards and other people wanted to live in the tower for more reasons than just the beautiful sisters.

This made sense as there weren't cultivation techniques that made absorbing spiritual or other energies into your body faster or anything. The fastest way was just increasing the density of the magical energy surrounding you and going on from there. So besides the beautiful sisters, a number of people wanted to stay in the tower to cultivate far faster which was extremely important to people due to our very lifespans being increased with the increase in our mage ranks.

The tower's bottom floor was seemingly a private shop of the materials and stuff that the sisters didn't have a use for, but the higher levels were ritual rooms and the closed-off rooms that Makato apparently used in her formation research that through the escalator that zipped around the tower I couldn't see.

But after a couple of minutes of riding the elevator we reached the end of the escalator and at the end of the large hallways was a large ornate jade double door that was engraved with a massive mural of what looked like mages fighting a dragon monster but failing and being forced to flee and I made no mention of the door and its mural as I knew its history... Just like Taihou was the victim of a higher-level monster literally eating her city and all its inhabitants, the Raiden Sisters when they were young, had the town they lived within attacked by a dragon subspecies that lived in the large river beside their town and only they and a couple other people survived.

Either way, they were famous for killing monsters in mass and had apparently gotten in trouble for it with their excessive slaughters touching the bottom line of the high-ranking monsters stopping their actions.

The guard touched his ear and spoke softly to the people inside to tell them of my arrival. "Sir, he came without issue." He said making my lips twitch as the way he said that made me believe they thought I was going to be troublesome... 'I will get vengeance for that slight!' I mentally swore jokingly before calming myself and smoothing over my facial expression as the guard looked back at me.

"Alright Jake, the Raiden sisters are willing to see you now." He said with a nod while I thought along the lines of, if they weren't willing to see me after calling me out in the middle of the mall then I would have just walked or at least made a scene.

"Thank you for guiding me," I said handing him a magic stone as a tip for not causing me any issues and he happily took the tier-two magic stone that was worth a good bit of money.

Then as the large jade door slowly opened up under the hands of a duo of admittedly beautiful maids I could feel were mages as they were using their magic to augment their bodies to push open the large doors. I was more busy thinking of how I should approach or deal with Raiden Ei and Raiden Makoto.

But as I walked into the massive penthouse and I saw the skeleton of the Monarch-level dragon that destroyed the sister's hometown, killing their family, and more. I then felt the unrestrained aura of power from the skeleton wash over me and I abandoned all ideas of acting tough with the sisters.

Just because this world was whitewashed in being in modern times with technology and Western magic. That didn't change the fact that this world was literally a Xianxia world with cultivation, and the monsters taking both human forms and not. So getting mouthy with people that could kill me and my family without any real repercussions was beyond stupid. I could wait to get the strength to bend them over and spank them to tears when I gained the strength.

Once I mentally recovered from the weight of the Monarch-level skeleton I heard a series of soft clapping ring out and I looked up and saw Makoto sitting beside her sister on a fancy couch that was seemingly made with monster bones and stuffed with several pelts to act as the cushion. "Not bad Jake Barris," Makoto said making me raise an eyebrow and then she glanced at the dragon skeleton coldly for a moment before looking back to me with a small smile. "You can tell the willpower and mental strength of someone a lot of times, when they are surprised by the aura of a higher-level beast." Makoto explain and I knew that so I shrugged.

"Did I pass your test then?" I asked wryly and she snickered before looking at her sister with a gleeful smile.

"Oh Ei, he is so rambunctious and adorable... Can we keep him?" She joked and her sister visibly took a breath and rolled her eyes before she literally scooted down the couch away from her sister making Makoto pout.

With that little byplay over, Makoto lost her joking smile and her purple eyes focused on me although she didn't use her mana at all to pressure me, I couldn't help but sit straighter under the weight of the gaze of a mage who slaughtered thousands of humans and actually hundreds of thousands of monsters with how she and her sister would collapse minature worlds in on themselves killing everything within. To say she had created a mountain of corpses in her adventures was an understatement.

"So Jake Barris," She spoke softly while resting her chin on her hand. "Your new magic, is an offensive one isn't it? And a very powerful one isn't it?" She questioned lightly.

For a moment I considered outright refusing to answer, but for one refusing in their very home was rude despite them questioning me and secondly it's not like I was going to hide my magic when I was going to use it during the youth competition. So after a moment of silence in which Makoto waited for my answer patiently, I answered in formation. "That's correct Lady Makoto, I awakened a magic seemingly based on cosmic forces of some kind." I answered and she raised a purple eyebrow in interest.

Instead of Makoto answering, Ei opened her eyes with her purple eyes landing on me and I felt that same pressure as before but this one instead of inspecting me, her eyes seemed to be weighing my very worth as she chewed on her thoughts before speaking slowly. "You are not representing anyone in the Youth Competition correct?" She questioned and I paused as that was indeed the case.

Sure Ed and Ai had their own families they were representing in the competition but in the end, I wasn't exactly representing my father's workshop and business as we didn't get involved in the cites politics. So I shrugged as I answered slightly unsurely. "I got roped into a team with Ai Hoshino before I knew the changes to the youth competition... Why are you asking? Your organization already has a couple of youth teams you two sponsor that can represent you?" I asked unsurely and the older ladies shared a look and used some mystical twins to speak or maybe just sent spiritual messages to one another before they looked back to me.

Makota snorted with a annoyed smile coming to her face as she spoke. "Those Hoshino were always too proactive for my tastes... But yes Jake, we have an opportunity for you." Makoto said and then without pause, Ei continued from her sister's speech.

"You may still work with the Hoshino girl, but during the youth competition your name will be under our aegis and represent us." Ei said and seeing my confusion she continued with her voice becoming dry as she spoke. "The person you will be replacing died yesterday due to a monarch-level monster purposefully killing him with its excrement falling from the Fog and landing on him." Ei said with absolutely zero humor in her voice and I felt a bead of sweat come down my forehead as it became impossible to breathe as Ei's eyes flashed with lightning and her killing intent slipped from her control.

"Ahem." Makoto coughed giving her sister a look and the other Raiden closed her eyes. "So we have an open slot and frankly with our teams track record in always coming in first place with the hunting and gathering points..." Makoto bobbed her head in a hinting motion with a knowing smile and I got what was she aiming at. She was offering me a spot in the almost certainly winning team which would be an amazing boost to my foundation as a mage.

As the resources we would get for coming in first place via the prizes from the city and its factions were great with the number of special treasures coming out of the Great Lake. Not to mention being part of the city's best mage team would basically be the seal of approval to any mage college I wanted to go to in the world!

So after a moment of thought I decided to be candid. "So is this you investing in my potential... Or an apology to my family for the heirloom you destroyed to suppress us." I asked flatly and Ei's eyes snapped open with her eyes holding a weight to them as Makoto lost her smile and eyed me flatly.

Then in a blur, I felt two deceptively soft yet steel-hard hands gripping my shoulders as Makoto literally blinked behind my chair using the spatial magic that she was famous for. "Young man..." She whispered in a husky drawl into my ear. "Sure here in America, people aren't so obsessed with their faces, but whether it be humans or even beasts we have our pride." She monologued into my ear as her hand ever so slightly tightened with each word she spoke.

"We will not apologize as what we did is the norm for those of strength putting those weaker in their place... But we like your potential, and if you can become stronger to guide humanity then you can also do whatever you please, and this is an offer both for your family to get more business and to give your own potential the opportunity to flourish." She finished and my eye twitched as I felt her hair touch my ears as she leaned back and between a blink, she was already causally sitting beside her sister like nothing had happened.

The biggest takeaway from Makoto's little ASMR speech into my ears beyond the fact that she was going to give me problems sleeping with her husky voice... Beyond just the words she spoke, she was all but telling me not to be a prideful ass and just let it go and they would compensate me and my family in a way that made no one look weak. And that was the best I was going to get.

I took a breath and finally nodded as I wasn't some prideful Xianxia protag that couldn't compromise. "I accept your offer then," I said as I stood up. "Here is my phone number for any information your employees need to send me," I said and wrote down my number on my spare notepad Makoto teleported in front of me.

Then with that settled both of the girls seemed to lose a bit of tension as they smiled in unison with Ei speaking. "Then go with our blessing and take care on your way home Jake Barriss."

Great chapter, tho I'm hoping to see some more of the magic system progression. I've never heard of the source material b4 this, so I'm a bit lost. Not to mention that, from what I can tell, strength is pretty much the requirement to actually matter. Jake better get to grinding if he doesn't want to be pressganged into a Familia like upgrades Jake lmao

Yeah that's a legit fear to worry about and he already is thinking of ways to humble them. Also I will get out a list for the cultivation so you can keep track easily.

Wrath of Vajra

Death by dragon shit falling and flopping right on top of your head? Poor bastard must be dying a second death in the afterlife from embarrassment, and the eulogy on his tombstone may not help matters with his family either.
