I had the mother lead me to the pharmacy she wanted to loot with her walking ahead of me as I didn't exactly trust the woman with the knife and once we went past the back of the back of the apartment complex.

And once we got to the pharmacy... I stalled and stopped as I saw the logo that denoted the company that owned the pharmacy.

[Umbrella Pharmacy] and just below the main logo of title and umbrella of the corporation was the company's slogan just above the sign. [Preserving the health of the people.]

'Preserving the health of my ass!' I mentally screamed as I looked at the store and I looked to the woman who was utterly unfucking aware of the Umbrella Corporation and what deeds they were involved in.

I swallowed and came closer to whisper. "We can't use this Pharmacy, Umbrella is involved with some crazy stuff."

She blinked but shook her head and said firmly. "I don't know what you mean. I literally work at this Pharmacy as a convenience clerk at the front, I just don't have the keys to open the store."

I... Didn't have any words to say about that. Like what could I say. 'Oh yeah the company you work for, in that pharmaceutical side is involved in making massive monsters and hordes of zombies... Oh, and they also have the world's largest and best cruise lines to go along with their war crimes.'

Yeah, Umbrella at least did something with all those architecture-based traps and puzzles they were obsessed with making. In casually making huge architectural marvels.

So while the woman gave me a concerned look I took a breath and spoke slowly. "Fine... But if we see anyone in there, don't call out to them. They could be one of the rabies-infected shamblers like on the radio."

The woman didn't look convinced. But at my firm look, she nodded weakly and we finished walking over to the Umbrella pharmacy.

The door to the pharmacy was an automatic glass door and seeing it I frowned and looked over the woman and spoke. "What is your name? Mine is Jake" I asked curiously.

She blinked and replied softly. "Sarah."

I nodded, and then I looked at the door and asked bluntly. "Is there an alarm?"

Her eyes darkened with her nodding slowly at the reminder making me exhale before I spoke slowly. "Where is the alarm?"

"Just above the door. But I had the idea of going through the skylight on the roof which won't have any alarms." Sarah said.

And I gave her a long look before I said flatly. "Fuck no. If we gather a good bit of supplies how are we supposed to get back up? There isn't a ladder that goes all the way up to the skylight is there?"

Sarah's face twitched at my blunt reminder and I just shook my head as I took in the door and I could see on the inside were the door sensors near the top.

Interesting thing about tempered glass doors and windows, the glass makers assume that the majority of the force will be in the center of the glass which is where it is actually the strongest.

I took my bag off my back, opening it up, I dug into my tools and grabbed my spring-loaded window breaker, I got on my tip toes and a loud cracking noise rang out as the tiny spike shot forward and the window was filled with cracks.

I then took some duct tape and gently began pulling the top glass pieces out of the broken glass door. And then I took a breath before I took out a hammer and with the claw, I snaked it around the edge of the top sensor and another series of cracking noises rang out as I snapped the plastic case around the sensor.

"Alright... I think that should be it. Let me get rid of the sensor mat in the front after I get rid of the rest of the door." I spoke with Sarah giving me a judging look as she spoke.

"Do... Do you rob places regularly or something?" She asked nervously.

I scoffed and said with some amusement. "Hardly... I am an architect and mechanic by trade. I know how all these modern buildings work."

Being raised with a bunker in the backyard that was constantly being upgraded and expanded taught a young man a lot about how to take care of shit. I had to fix generators, make sure the bunker was actually ventilated properly, and make sure the water systems in the bunker worked and drew from the deep well on the property.

Once I silently removed the rest of the glass door I carefully moved the pressure mat from the inside that would activate the automatic door and then with the door cleared out I took a deep breath and walked into the Umbrella Pharmacy building that had a good amount of light streaming in from the afternoon sun.

'Do I need anything for myself?' I mused before I shrugged and followed Sarah as she headed to the back of the pharmacy convenience store and while we walked over there, I asked quietly. "Do you know where the nebulizer treatments are?"

She nodded and said quietly. "Yeah... I knew the pharmacists who worked here and after closing I would always get the treatments and would see them take it from a particular cabinet."

We made our way to the back of the store and once we were there, I just used my claw hammer to break the padlock blocking the entrance allowing us into the backrooms.

A loud rustle rang out as Sarah flipped a switch to turn on the lights for the pharmacy storage area and as soon as the room was lit up. I wanted to groan as my worst fears were proven correct.

Necks snapped... Literally snapped with the speed they snapped towards us with four 'people' that had been infected with the T-Virus that had clearly mauled one another into bloody messed looked towards us.

"Oooh my g-" She whispered with her voice rising to a shout but I silenced her but slapping her ass and then yanked her behind me as I took out my axe from my jacket.

"Shut up." I stated coldly as I remembered the gore of disemboweling deer and other animals while I went hunting to clear my mind and then I stepped forward and a loud crunching noise rang out.

As I slammed my axe into one of the zombies' crowns of their heads with their bodies going stiff and falling forward but got kicked back as I used a leg to push it's body back to wrench my axe out of its skull.

'A metal baseball bat or rubber sledgehammer would be better than an axe.' I thought as I realized all to quickly that a brush axe wasn't that great for killing zombies as axes took too much commitment in their swings.

But with only four zombies I just backstepped and after a moment of thought I turned around and dragged Sarah out of the back of the pharmacy and once we reached the door I grabbed three of the plastic waiting chairs and tossed them in a piled with their four metal legs getting caught together in front of the door.

"They... They are actually zombies! Why are they zombies?! The radio said they just had rabies!" Sarah was hyperventilating as she stared listlessly as the three zombies came to the door.

And then just as I expected the power-walking shambling zombies got their legs caught real quickly on the twisted-up legs of the chairs and fell face-first onto the ground.

Allowing me to slam my axe into their heads and the back of their heads and use a leg to pin their body to the ground to wrench the axe of their heads easily.

"Sarah, wake the fuck up. The apocalypse is literally here. Aliens, demons, and zombies walk among us." I spoke as I crouched before the brunette to look her directly in the eyes.

Her mouth just kinda gaped in front of me before she slowly nodded as I imagined she already had dealt with similar freakouts after seeing the aliens of The Quiet Place tearing through people.

"Come on, we got to get the meds you need." I spoke as I stood up and had a pressing thought. 'How did those four become infected?'

But not long after we went back into the storage area of the pharmacy. My question was answered on its own. As laying on a set of tables were several bottles filled with light blue fluid that had a couple of needles placed beside them.

And I realized that the little glass containers were literally fucking T-Virus samples or something as it was clear that the dumbasses had injected themselves with it as I read the instructions of the medicine and my lips curled up in disgust as I realized what the 'medication' was actually.

'Memetic Anesthetics to supposedly wipe away memories and make someone resistant to radiation for a while... The stuff has been ordered by another company and its delivery location is deep in the desert... Was this shit meant for the SCP Foundation or something?'

I mean... Becoming a zombie would definitely wipe away memories and radiation wouldn't be an issue would it.

So I just swept up the bottles into a bag and then tossed them aside while I watched Sarah find the medicine she needed.

"Ok I got it." She spoke as she swept up a couple of dozen boxes of the breathing treatments that should last her a couple of years into her large arm bag while I grabbed some steroids, epi-pens, and other forms of medication into the last bits of space in my own bag.

I nodded but Sarah bit her lip and spoke. "Uhm, could... Could you escort me to my complex?"

Before I could respond a loud crashing noise rang out and her hands shot to her mouth while I lunged forward and dragged the woman out of the storage area and into the front of the convenience store.

As I could see light breaking through the ceiling as something was tearing into the said ceiling.

I pulled us near a wall and onto the ground with my hands wrapped around her head that was pulled against my chest and I just kept silent and utterly still as the monster tore into the building with its limbs carving through metal and concrete like they were just sticks and stiff playdough.

A loud thud eventually rang with the sounds of general destruction stopping.

There was a moment of silence before the sounds of hard stone or metal dragging on the ground rang out as the monster slowly inspected the area.

It made soft clicking noises of a sort as it inspected the back and I felt Sarah's hands dig into my back as she shoved her face into my chest and hid her shudders and rising sobs that were going to leak out from the stress.

And for my part, I just brushed my hand through her hair as I silently watched as it exited the back at not being able to find anything... But as it was leaving the exit of the back it came cross the zombie corpses and with a blur of its front legs it was standing upon it carved through the thin carpet and several inches into the carpet as it tore a zombie corpse in half.

It leaned forward on its spindly front legs... Its large stone-like bulbous head cracked as its diamond-hard armor broke open and its soft innards inspected the zombie corpse with its weak senses that weren't its hearing.

Like an unhappy horse it heavily exhaled and its head twisted side to side as it stomped its clawed foot a couple feet deep into the concrete floor. Which shook our bodies, and made objects on the shelves next to the monster drop to the floor.

Then it snapped its head to the side, its head seemingly looking through the walls away from us and then I couldn't even track it with my eyes as it blurred forward, and with a loud crashing noise it ran straight through a wall.

Through a fucking supporting pillar and all, through its rebar and everything. With it only twisting on the ground before it was off at full speed again I heard the soft sounds of gunfire in the distance.

I didn't move, and instead only squeezed Sarah firmer against me as she tried to move. And I was right as the sounds of another monster sprinting down the road rang out as a loud crashing noise rang out as it smashed into a car during its sprint towards the stream of machine gunfire in the distance.

After a couple of minutes I let Sarah go and as we came apart, I didn't let her do anything before I put a finger to her jaw to keep her from opening her mouth.

I met her brown eyes that matched her brown hair and I firmly shook my head with my hand going to my lips to put a finger of them in the universal sign of silence.

She slowly nodded in understanding and with that, I got off of her completely and after a moment, I pointed at her, then myself, and nodded as though to agree to make sure she got home alright.

She looked... Very thankful to say the least.

We carefully walked outside and I exhaled in relief seeing the car that got smashed into. Was an old-as-hell car that didn't even have an alarm so the fear of the car going off was taken care of.

The walk back to Sarah's complex however stressful it was. Was still uneventful even as Sarah all but held my arm with her fingers pinching my hoodie as a lifeline until we reached her apartment building as the sounds of gunfire and explosions in the distance grew louder.

Once we reached her apartment... She literally had me escort her to the door itself and it was only when we reached the door that she let go of my jacket and then she stepped forward to unlock the door.

And once she unlocked the door. I saw her hesitate with her back to me as she clearly was considering something until she turned around towards me as she cracked open the door and she made a come hither motion as she pushed the door open.

'Do I go into the stranger's home... This has 'bad idea' written all over it. But in for a penny at this point.' I mused as I followed Sarah into her home with her gently closing and locking the door behind her.

And I blinked as I took in the probably three-bedroom apartment's living room to see that Sarah had taken pillows and what looked like mattresses. And had put them over the widows to block any sound from escaping the apartment.

"Thank you Jake... You saved my life twice out there." Sarah spoke softly as she leaned against a wall and threaded her hands through her hair.

I gave a wry smile and I said with some amusement. "I told you so about Umbrella though..."

Sarah's eyes snapped to mine with her dark brown eyes hiding a tired pout in them before she exhaled and spoke with amusement. "Yes, the bunker-dwelling conspiracy theorist has proven the world right... Now how about I make you dinner for tonight and you can sleep out on the couch so you don't have to wander the city through the night with the monsters and apparently demons."

I did some thinking and knew that she was right. By the time I got to my jeep, it was going to be almost dark... And driving in the middle of the night with all the bullshit that has happened sounded like an absolutely terrible idea.

Plus this apartment... Should be safe with how Sarah had put mattresses over the windows to keep any noise we made by accident to a bare minimum to say nothing of how that demon lord was apparently culling the invading aliens.

Um, how did she know he was living in a bunker? He never told her... and if he did he's a moron.
