Also, yeah absolutely agree that Daiya’s death hits surprisingly hard for a character introduced 2-3 episodes ago in a show only 6 episodes total out at the time. I think (at least subconsciously) it kinda hurt everyone cause after Kujo died, Daiya seemed to be the biggest/oldest guy of the group that filled that ‘Big Brother’ role for them. So seeing them lose that essential figure of their team, with few great choices left as replacements, hurts a lot

Yea at that point, Raiden's the only 'big brother' type left after Kujo and Daiya. I'm actually glad the anime decided to include this stuff about Daiya since his and Anju's relationship wasn't really explored in the light novels beyond a few hints that Anju drops after his death that she really liked him. The whole Daiya death scene is actually completely anime original, and its one of the few anime original scenes that I feel actually adds a lot to the story and fits in with the original story completely.
