I highly recommend watching Fate UBW, it's a direct sequel to this and is just as good if not better. Fate Zero is a very philosophical show, so to go over all the major characters and elements: Saber, Lancelot, and Guinevere: Guinevere was Artoria's wife, but they never loved each other it was political marriage, All Saber ever cared about was saving her country and presenting a larger than life image, she never focused much on the turmoil and individual feelings of her subjects which is what led to her downfall: in Lancelot's case he fell in love with Guinevere and eloped with her, but when Artoria found out instead of punishing Lancelot she let him off. This led to Lancelot leading a life of eternal guilt feeling he was never properly reprimanded for his evil actions which in turn made him go mad and become a berserker. Artoria herself realizes her sense of justice and chivalry was an illusion and is dead, there is no honor in war, just senseless violence as Kiritsugu said Kiritsugu: His moral code was to value the many over the few, however he learns that doesn't always lead to the best personally outcome when the grail puts his philosophy to the test. Ultimately he makes the toughest decision to lose his family in order to save the world, in a weird twisted way his wish does come true in this sense but at a great personal cost. His daughter is alive but will never see him again, and he adopted Shirou who will try and carry his legacy to find a way to be a hero who can save everyone. Kariya: Pretty self explanatory, he loved Aoi and wanted to be a father to Rin and Sakura but that wish was perverted into a revenge fantasy against Tokimomi, their dad and Aoi's husband. Ironically in trying to save them all he ended up destroying their family, keeping Sakura and Rin separated and causing Aoi to go insane Tokiomi: An Ironic character, his philosophy was that mages honor tradition and comradely and are trustworthy which led him to blindly trust evil mages like Zouken who he gave his own daughter to and distrust non-mages like Kariya who was only trying to save his daughter. If Tokiomi was smarter and not as bias against non-mages Sakura would be saved Waver, Rinnosuke, and Caster: The only characters to have a "good end" are these 3. Despite Rinnousuke and Caster being evil they both reached their salvation in the end (Rinnosuke died with a smile and found his meaning in life and Caster repented and saw his beloved Jeanne), Waver found his meaning in life through Iskander. Basically it's important to note that the only 3 characters who didn't have a solid philosophical outlook or goal in life and just took things "day-by-day" were the only ones to find a happy and satisfactory ending. Every character who espoused some form of justice or philosophical outlook or had some greater goal ultimately ended up dead or in ruin

Man, I forgot how good F/Z really was, and watching it with you was great. Unlimited Blade Works would be next. It's not as universally praised, but I really like it, perhaps more than Zero even. I really hope you find the time to react to it. Till next time!

I know this comment is coming a year after this post. But I really hope you watch and react to Unlimited Blade Works, and the rest of the fate series eventually.
