ARTIST JOURNAL: An Unlikely Gift (Patreon)

I've got a little story-time for you all today!

A couple of weeks ago, in early January, one of my Instagram Followers sent me a private message informing me that a Perler Bear Artist had re-created one of my designs and was sharing it onto her Instagram Account without giving me credit.

I went to her profile and had a look around. I realized that while there was no price tag attached to this beauty photographed above, it specifically said that all of her Perler creations were for sale, and she is to be contacted through DMs.

I have no problem with anyone re-drawing my work as long as it is for personal use. If you miss out on "crediting me" it's not the end of the world. Reselling something I created and writing that you worked very hard on creating that concept, that's a bit too far in my book. Especially if you managed to get a feature on your work on top of it.  "(ಠ⌣ಠ)"

Following her instruction, I sent a DM and calmly asked what was going on with the piece. She didn't reply. I waited a few weeks and left a polite message on her post to check her private messages.

Her reply was firm and to the point. She found the image on goggle, she didn't know it belonged to anyone and hence she used it. *cringe* She added that she was NOT an art thief and that I should be more careful how I post my work online if I don't want someone else to use it. *more cringe*

HOWEVER!

After venting a little bit through what I can imagine felt like being a little bit cornered, she agreed to be willing to rectify the situation in any way possible and has since added credit to her posts and sent me the perler creation for me to keep in my home.

I am sharing this little story with you all here, however, I won't be posting these details outside of the club. I plan on sharing this piece and the artist in question, to help promote her work. After all, all is well that ends well. I got a lovely item out of it and she will get a full on feature on my Instagram.

The lesson of the day is, if someone wrongs you, keep your cool, shower them with kindness and maybe something really great will come out of it.
