For the last month, I've been on what feels like a continuous writing sprint.  Not only am I keeping up with my 4-5 chapters of Death: Genesis, but I've also been keeping my nose to the grindstone with Mistrunner.  My goal was to finish the first-ish draft by the end of the year, and as of last night, I accomplished that goal!

And it turned out both longer and shorter than I expected it to.  Originally, it was supposed to clock in at around 170k words, but as I got into it, I realized that I just couldn't cover the ground I wanted to with that length.  So, I decided to just keep going and not worry about word counts.  It wasn't until I signed the publication deal (for Mistrunner's first 3 books) with Podium that I realized just how long it was going to end up being (if I didn't take it in hand).  So, after going back and forth with it, I found the perfect way to end the first book.  The only downside is that the first series in this world is probably going to be 4 books now instead of the original 3 I intended.  In any case, it's now a pretty beefy 205k words (which I think translates to somewhere between 500-700 book pages).

Either way, I'm super happy with how it turned out because after the climax I just wrote, I'm confident that it is a very appropriate spot to end a book (because it ties everything together and really feels like an ending).

So, now I get to dive into editing and fix some continuity errors I've put off until now.  I also intend to throw in some extra foreshadowing and personality into the story, so it's still a little ways from submission to my publisher.  But within a week (or two at most), it'll be in Podium's hands and we can start preparing for the book's eventual release on Kindle/Audible, which should be around August.

As an aside, I'm probably ten chapters (or so) from wrapping up book four (and the first cycle) of Death: Genesis, too.  And it's shaping up pretty well, too.  I know it's good, but I'll be more excited when I finally get to the climax, though.

Anyway - if you haven't yet, check out Death: Genesis Volume One on Kindle!  The more people who buy it (or read it via Kindle Unlimited), the closer I get to actually doing this for a living...which you probably don't care that much about, but I do!

If you have anything you'd like to see changed about Mistrunner (not major plot points or anything, just minor issues), here's where you can let me know.  Who knows?  You might even influence the final version of the story.
