A year ago when ranking the 27 Weekly Shonen Jump series that i had watched/read, i touched upon my conflicted feelings about one particular series - Rurouni Kenshin - due to controversy surrounding its mangaka and my needing time to process my relationship with his work - well ive processed so here we are LMAO.

In this podcast I'll discuss at length the topic of "Problematic Faves/Favs/Phayves/HoweverYouWannaSpellIt", list some of my own from manga/anime, go on a side rant about antiheroes and desires for redemption in online fandom spaces in the midst of the puriteen counter movement and then round out the podcast with my personal stance on Separating the Art From The Artist and the conclusion ive come to in relation to my feelings about Rurouni Kenshin.

Kris how do you see so much of the Disk Horse even after getting rid of your social media LOL. Also I am attached to Zuko as my son but I'm here for my toxic faves and encourage their fictional toxicity. Can't relate to the constant need to justify my liking of a problematic or toxic chara. I grew up with Kenshin too and still like it but fuck the mangaka. I don't feel too torn up about just never touching Kenshin again even though I have fond memories of watching it with my sister as a kid. I guess for a more recent fandom of mine, I got into the 2ha novels by Meatbun and like as a general rule english danmei novel fandoms lack critical reading and thinking skills (maybe just a LOUD minority but still) so everything is problematic to someone there. I reach for stories that have more unwholesome (? idk if thats the right word) story elements, so I ended up really enjoying 2ha because my friends who know my taste thought I'd like it and rec'd it. Sometimes I'm like looking at ppl react to the same books I read and being puritan about them like... no one is forcing you to read something you don't like just put it down LMAO. I'm reading them bc I know I'll have a good time.

The way I related so hard to your first 2 music problematic favs. For context I grew up listening to R Kelly and was in elementary school when Chris Brown first came out and I was a STAN before that was popular. Like you, I treated the allegations against R Kelly as a joke because that’s what it was in the black community. A common known thing that was also a joke. Just look at the Boondocks episode about R Kelly. Unfortunately when the Chris Brown assault occurred I was so deep in my love for him that I defended Chris with every breath and continued to listen and support his music. I even justified it by saying it was okay since Rihanna forgave him and eventually dated him again. Years went on and Chris Brown was still a liked artist of mine but no longer a top fav. And then he assaulted Kae and that’s when I realized it wasn’t a one off thing and that Chris was just an abuser. My stance now on Chris Brown and R Kelly is that I refuse to stream or support any of their new music. I have R Kelly blacklisted on Spotify so that his songs can’t come up for me in playlist. Chris Brown I only allow myself to listen to his older work from when I was a fan but I again don’t seek out his music.

HONESTLY ITS NOT MY FAULT LMAO people send me tweets in the discord and then i go off writing BOOKS ranting in response XD Ive heard that mxtx novel fandom has become weirdly puritan but mostly id say thats probably the donghua's fault since mdzs and tgcf both had a lot of the romance erased so the heartstopper/sasamiya kissing-is-fetishizing-and-really-anything-actual-queer-couples-do-is-problematic-but-we-swear-we're-not-homophobic brigade probably latched onto that shit UNFORTUNATELY

KrisPNatz

yea i feel you, like its very WHIPLASHY to have something that was treated as a joke by so many in our younger years suddenly be like "oh no this is serious and more fucked up than you thought" especially when the individual makes media you very heavily enjoy. At least nowadays hopefully younger generations wont have to deal with the whiplash and get the stories straight from the get go. And with chris brown its like... the man just punched usher in the face (allegedly, or it was an affiliate or something) in the past week... USHER - WHO THE HELL PUNCHES USHER? the man does himself no damn favors LMAO

LMAO FAIR I've given into the temptation of clicking "show tweet" despite already having muted/blocked like half the ppl responding to many a diskhorse thread. Sad day when people think they're being progressive basically are like "actually this censored version is better. more like this please." Like pleassseee I'm surprised we even got mxtx anime adaptations. I don't even know how they would adapt svsss if they take out the gay parts. I'll stop now because now I want to write books listing my grievances about this nonsense

LMAO FELT i still cant believe a live action drama for mdzs was greenlit and completed the story
