Summer 2024's new anime selection has come in HOT with the arrival of the latest Television length BL anime: Twilight Out Of Focus (Tasogare Out Focus), and with it a plethora of things to discuss both good and bad. While the content of Tasogare Out Focus itself is generally inoffensive, one key aspect of the story signals a triumphant return to the TV BL Anime of yesteryears with the displays of physical intimacy between male characters that's been sorely missed. However inversely the series along with Senpai wa Otokonoko (Senpai Is An Otokonoo) has been at the center of a controversy involving homophobic bot usage on a well known anime streaming platform. And just when you thought things couldn't get any more unnecessarily dramatic, in this video bare witness to a tedious back and forth spurred on by a casual review of the series containing misogynistic and ironically homophobic sentiments that spiraled into broader discussions around political sentiments towards "problematic" media, queer experience gate keeping done for the sake of fictional simulation and even a passionate defense of an anime you NEVER would think to be covered on this channel. All in all despite being a piece of fiction, several aspects of Reality have come to burden the Twilight Out of Focus anime in many more ways than one.

Okay but I've been watching all your stuff since you've been posting the last few years, which is weird that it's been a few years, ANYWAY! THANK YOU. for bringing up the linguistic aspect of this because I truly feel like the education system is literally to blame for this, *yelling at clouds* because 100% the whole "who is writing the story means that it's okay or not to exist" and i honestly feel that it is a dig at str8 women, but stereotyped as crazy white chicks. But yeah, it's so boring now. Like stale water. Like, it's great if you've never ever watched this type of media before but omg please they need to make something more fun. Also, 100%, i just feel like it's so formal and supposed to feel relaxing that things start to miss the mark and become boring. GL is kinda boring for that reason. Pretty visuals, that's about it.

Which is extra weird that they think that straight white chicks are the predominant group consuming BL when it statistically would be mostly asian women lmfao sames jomertons negative impact on queer fiction discourse is going to unfortunately affect us for a long fuckin while. I actually had a whole section about perceptions of stereotypes i cut from the Script that somewhat covered a similar sentiment where "kids these days" (LMAO) have ineptly developed this idea that "stereotype = bad" when in fact stereotypes are reflections of real groups of people and behaviors and the issues around them are how said stereotypes are utilized whether it be as a caricature to intentionally be prejudiced towards a group or things like black actresses wanting to do non-sassy-black-women roles but being typecast due to racist casting directors which is a broader industry issue. The focal piece of media I wanted to highlight in relation to this was my all time fav Q-Force and how despite being a production helmed by a gay showrunner and having a majority cast of LGBT characters voiced by prominent lgbt actors it was framed as "bad" and "reductive" for having "gay stereotypes"... >.> because the baby gays think effeminate queer men are "offensive" and "setting the community back" and the same for butch lesbians when in fact the references behaviors and types of people featured in the damn show were intended to be jokes people from the community would relate to and laugh WITH not AT which i myself and countless others did. All these people want nowadays like i said is a simulation of a love life they dont have, otherwise who the fuck is arguing down about two boring gay boys who just blush for 12 volumes like? Im into MOSTLY softer BL too but its crazy to see people frame these stories as better than others when they could just experience these stories if they got off their phones, learned some social skills and became LIKABLE LMAO. Theres also a whole conversation about wanting to simulate dating straight guys due to ironically internalized homophobia masked as queer slacktivism but that could be a whole other video
