It's time for a very special live podcast for the Halloween season, as Bill Oakley (former Simpsons showrunner, Steamed Hams Society boss, and Sight Gags figurehead) joined us in Portland, OR! Recorded on October 14, 2023, Bill chatted with us about two of his fave Treehouse of Horror segments, Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace and Attack of the 50ft Eyesores, and shared many secrets from making the episode. This was a fun sequel to our 2018 live show, so listen now to get in the Halloween spirit!

When Nelson HAW HAW's at Martin dying in a horrific and confronting way, its pure Simpsons comedy magic! That, and Krusty's reaction to the Bagpipe monster 'Hoo hoo oh BOY.. don't dream about me no more, kid' On the subject of lines/themes now immortalised in memehood, 'just don't look' also turned into a big deal saying for a while, as the thing to say to someone who is outraged about something politically or socially awful in the news, something perhaps also associated with toxicity in general, something you'd be better off ignoring / pretending it doesn't exist: just don't look, just don't look.

Always love to hear from Bill! The Joe Camel revelation was both shocking and delightful. Probably around twenty years ago, a friend of mine did have an official Simpsons calendar that included Smarch, where all the holidays and birthdays were obscure name references like Mother Shibubu and Joey Jo-Jo Junior. The biggest problem with it was that Smarch was definitely not the thirteenth month—it might have been placed in the middle of spring or summer.
