What A Cartoon! - The April 2020 Schedule (Patreon)

We hope all of you had as fun a month as possible back in March, because now the Talking Simpsons Network is heading straight into April! And our What A Cartoon! schedule is really exciting: There's our second annual April tradition, a special anniversary pick from a patron, and an anime that's overdue for a retrospective! We've got it all that and more in April, so read ahead for what's coming soon on our animation podcast!

And the biggest change for April is how we choose our What A Cartoon Movie! From now on, voting on the poll will be done the last seven days of a month, that way we can include the film in our schedule and have even more time to prepare for our largest podcast of each month. The winner of April's poll is the Lupin III classic, The Castle of Cagliostro! 

Also, don't forget, if you're a $5 subscriber to the Patreon, you get to hear all these upcoming episodes a week ahead of time and ad-free, along with our collection exclusive miniseries, which includes our next miniseries, Talking Mission Hill, which begins on April 24! And the $10 subscribers get all that AND our full-length What A Cartoon Movie! podcast at the end of each month!

The Adventures of Pete & Pete - "The Call" [Patreon Date: 4/6/20 - Free Feed Date 4/13/20]

If you recall last year our special April Fool's episode of What A Cartoon! was a live action series, and we're continuing that tradition with the first podcast of April featuring the Nickelodeon icons, Pete & Pete!  We go deep into this beloved show of our childhoods, and explore the local Wellsville legend of "The Call!"

If you don't have the out-of-print DVDs, this is hard series to find legally, but just Google "Pete and Pete The Call" and you'll probably find something.

Cartoon All Stars To The Rescue [Patreon Date: 4/13/20 - Free Feed Date 4/20/20]

Thirty years ago this month millennials were shown the ultimate cartoon crossover that was ALSO a vehicle for incredibly toxic, racially charged messaging! Chosen by one of our top Patreon subscribers, we're doing the infamous Cartoon All Stars To The Rescue, which saw Bugs Bunny, Winnie The Pooh, ALF, Garfield, Papa Smurf, Slimer, and many more team up to yell at a child!

This is a VHS that basically no one claims the rights to, you can easily find a good copy on YouTube.

Revolutionary Girl Utena - "Episodes 1/2" [Patreon Date: 4/20/20 - Free Feed Date 4/27/20]

Another pick from a premium patron, and this is a true '90s anime classic! We plunge deep into the sapphic sword fights and existentialist coming-of-age that is Utena! How did the top folks from the Sailor Moon anime invent a new feminist series that challenged gender norms and sexuality? Learn about it with us!

Utena has some great Blu-rays, but you can also find it streaming officially many places, including YouTube.

An Extended Preview of April's What A Cartoon Movie! The Castle of Cagliostro [Patreon Date: 4/27/20 - Free Feed Date 5/4/20]

The votes are in on our Miyazaki-themed poll, and the clear winner is his directorial debut, The Castle of Cagliostro! We meet Lupin on his most dangerous adventure yet, as we get an action-packed adventure that's also full of the heart and whimsy that we expect from a Studio Ghibli production! And at the end of the month, we'll share our lengthy preview AND the full podcast for our $10 subscribers!

There's an amazing Blu-ray of the film out there, and you can also find it on Netflix (in the US at least).
