Holy shit I speak french too and never realized this, always assumed it was spanish

Skinner's logic of "since you have hurt science, you must now aid it" is actually not that bad of an idea Also: Yay for Dave!

Never thought this would be the hill I'd go to die on, but 'Where's Wally' is the original and correct name for Waldo. Not only does it scan better (at least in my accent), Wally is also soft slang for an idiot, similar to doofus, which fits with his goofy design. Worst episode ever etc ;)

My favorite episode arrives at the end of this season, but Bart's Comet is probably top five. Season Six, man.

Much like Henry around this time, I'd have 6 hour tapes full of commercial break-less episodes of the Simpsons. I had a second VCR where I was editing out commercial and writing down timer codes as not to miss jokes. Bart's Comet was the first episode on tape eight and one of my most watched episodes of the Simpsons.

Do you regret leaving out the commercials now? I love Simpsons commercial breaks <3

Anonymous

Absolutely. But, if I did have late 80's-90's commercials lying around, I'd be constantly uploading them to YouTube and the like.

Matt Bixler! Hello!

Great episode, but I can't believe you skipped over my favorite joke! Arnie in the Sky describes the "Never-think-it-through attitude of our citizens" as he's in a helicopter NOT FLYING OUT OF THE CITY always got a huge laugh out of me every time I watched this one.

i never thought about that! I was so focused on the scary image of the people trying to fling their cars over the bridge and falling to their deaths!

They animated the clouds scudding across the sky behind Skinner and Bart, but couldn't animate Milhouse or anyone in the lunchroom behind Bart talking to the Super Friends. I would have sworn this was a season 7 episode, I didn't have Fox from season 4 to six or so, I wonder if they played this before the second half of Who Shot Mr. Burns premiered, when I got Fox back, so it got stuck with season 7 in my head? It does feel like season 7.

Have you guys ever considered including some of the reviews of the episodes written at the time on the show? The episode capsules on The Simpsons Archive have a roundup of what people on Usenet thought about the show at the time and it’s hilarious to see what most people now consider the best episodes the show ever had get torn apart. Here’s one from this episode: Martin Crim: Tonight's episode was an embarrassment and a disappointment. If I were trying to get a friend hooked on The Simpsons, I would never show them that episode. The plot was extremely lame and contrived. There were a couple funny moments, but that was all.

And another: Joe Manfre: what the hell? I seem to remember when Simpsons episodes had plots which related to rather than hopelessly contorting real life. This continued in the recent trend of episodes being little more than jokes barely strung together by a thin, unbelievable plot.

Completely unrelated to the episode but i'm so excited for 90 minutes of bad austrlian accents soon

I suggested this early on in Talking Simpsons' run and, obviously, it never happened. I also enjoy reading those old reviews for some of the greatest episodes The Simpsons ever had and seeing these nerds get angry for no good reason. I wonder what episodes they actually enjoyed.

"Que sera sera", the song annoys me. As someone who has French as a first language, the fact this song is ALWAYS mispronouced is excruciating. It's a French saying, so it's "que" pronounced "k-uh" as opposed to the Spanish "que" pronounced "k-ay".

Some of the buildings around my city from the 40s/50s still have the fallout shelter signs on the side. It's kind of disconcerting to drive by a high school and see a bright yellow radiation symbol. Moe is really the MVP of this episode. From his horror about his bar getting destroyed, to "shelterinis," to his barnyard animal impression, he steals the show much more than I remembered.

Moe might be the MVP of this season. Between this episode, the Stonecutters, and some of the upcoming ones (The Springfield Connection, The PTA Disbands) he's got some consistently great lines this year.
