Now that the Halloween fun is over, it's time for the proper "season premiere" of season 15, as Homer reconnects with his mother. After we dig into the career of writer Michael Price, we discuss how this second appearance of Glenn Close in the series compares to the first. Plus, we chat about viral headlines, collectible t-shirts, the surveillance state of 2003, and the overuse of songs from the '60s in this week's groovy podcast!

This episode touches me in a very deep way I’ve always been a mammas boy being raised by my grandmother who I always called mom, seeing Homer with an elderly mother felt very familiar to me And now it being almost a decade after losing her I can completely understand Homer’s obsession with wanting one last chance to be with her The sadness is definitely manipulative and the constant humiliation homer feels is so darkly funny you forget how strange it is that Mona would go through such weird methods to be with her child All in all is makes me laugh and get choked up I never thought I would say about the season 15 episode Also, no worries from me for not having a guest as much as I enjoy the guests I also enjoy a good old-fashioned Bob and Henry episode 👌

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!!! talk about the 2003 Clone Wars! It's the BEST and my favorite thing from Star Wars ever released, and it's so underloved

The 2008 episode "Mona Leave-a" which does away with Homer's mom is even further tainted by a Lance Armstrong guest appearance for no real reason other than they needed something for Homer to be watching on tv. I believe it was still a couple years out from him admitting to his history of doping, in which we all ripped off those stupid yellow bracelets.

Henry, you were right to choose Doug. It's a great show!

I'm glad to hear you guys call out the Homer letter writing to movies bit as a Family Guy joke because I had the same reaction. I don't like this episode. It's one where we really feel the whole "reset to status quo" get forced into the plot. I would have much preferred the intended plot of Mona dying at the kitchen table. Then she would have had a more plausible reason for coming back like a terminal illness. At the same time, I don't know if they have the writing staff at this time to pull off a far more sincere episode than this as evident by every potential poignant moment getting undercut almost immediately. The sweet ending does nothing for me because the episode doesn't earn it. A great trick though with the article actually working. I love Splash Mountain, but I haven't ridden the new version. I do hate that they removed the fear element from the big drop. The Disney World version is also the superior one and I think Henry's assumption is correct that the further back you sit the less wet you get. That is, unless the ride stops on its way back to the boarding area. My wife and I paused there right next to this little stream of water that trickles down the fake mountain. Normally, when you're going by it you just get a little spray, but if trapped there it just pours over you. That's the wettest I've ever been on the ride. And I hope that ancient Simpsons Ride can stay put just a little bit longer. I'm currently planning a trip there in February so I can finally see Simpsons World before it's likely put out to pasture for some other, worse, IP.

Bob you nailed it on the head talking about movies that would've worked better for an SNL or a Jimmy Kimmel sketch. That's how I felt about the recent new Good Burger 2 movie, in fact I believe Kenan and Kel already did a Good Burger sketch which was much better than the movie itself. As for this episode, it really is 22 minutes of everything in the story trying to take Homer's happiness away in a very cruel way, which is how the rest of the Mona Simpson saga goes in the future

Henry! I’m so happy you mentioned the rat in Maggie’s room being a Lady and the Tramp reference! I’ve always thought about that every time I’ve watched this episode but wondered if it was a stretch. That movie definitely played a role in my greater-than-normal rat fear.

Glenn Close now a days seems to be really having fun with her career. I just watched "The Deliverance" in which she gets possessed by a demon and talks about her adult daughters pussy (her words not mine).

It's Chowdah, CHOWDAH

Was surprised to hear the commercial bumper refer to this as the season premiere as a new Treehouse had just aired. I understand wanting to squeeze whatever promotional juice you can, but I don’t think they do this any more.

I feel the Die Hard joke is referring to the stolen cable episode when Bart is watching the movie and refers to the character of John McClane as Die Hard. “This is where Die Hard jumps through the window “

Ya know you guys have a habit of saying if they repeat a joke in seasons 3-9 it's a runner, but if they do it here they're lazy hacks who forgot they did it already.

So I have a buddy who got a court summons from a national park for flipping off a park ranger. and John Lennon’s mother hits hard if you know about his life or if you had absent parents
