We're covering an allegedly prophetic episode of Simpsons, and for that, we're joined once more by Stephen Sajdak, cohost of the We Hate Movies podcast! After the Osaka Flu ravages Springfield, Marge is arrested for shoplifting, and we discuss how much it might mirror the 2020 lockdown. Then we dig into the best Lionel Hutz sequence in the entire series, and then try to figure out all the changes made to the weird third act. You won't be saying "malaise forever" after this podcast!

it's funny that your conversation went to 'modern movie trailers giving away too many spoilers' in an episode with a scene parodying 'psycho.' the original trailer for 'psycho' featured vera miles in the shower scene instead of janet leigh. i had always heard that this was done intentionally by hitchcock as a misdirect, since (spoilers for a nearly 65-year-old movie) killing off the lead character, played by a star as big at the time as leigh, was meant to be as much a surprise as the reveal of norman bates's mother. turns out the trailer was filmed long enough after the movie that leigh wasn't available, so miles put on a blonde wig to recreate the scene.

I wonder if Sun and Run was the inspiration for that Tim and Eric segment about the lotion Bob Odenkirk uses to induce diarrhea

I was very happy to hear the mention of Siskel spoiling The Crying Game. I read "Opposable Thumbs" as well a month or so ago, and when I got to that part, a lightbulb went off in my head and I suddenly got a joke from a 30 year old episode. This episode is pretty good but the BTS stuff is gold. Julie Kavner's "Who the fuck cares?" retort, Swartzwelder pitching a room joke of the file emerging from Homer's ass as he's talking to Marge, the whole "Hollywood weirdos" digression on the commentary. *chef's kiss*

Can we all just pause and appreciate how good the screen grabs used for thumbnails are? I want to think Nina has some part in this. Even if it’s actually Bob and Henry, they were clearly inspired by Nina and her artistic eye. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. 😀
