Talking Simpsons' final Disney Renaissance Summer is here on Patreon, and we're starting with the beloved Mulan from 1998. Starring the first Asian Disney Princess, we discuss the thousands of years of history for this fable, how it ended up at Disney in the '90s, and why it was seen as the most important film animated in an Orlando theme park. After exploring its creation, we delve into this tale of militarism meets gender, covering every song, battle, and bad joke by Mushu in fun detail. So grab your luckiest cricket and listen along!

2024-07-16 01:43:32 You guys mentioned the opening to Mrs. Doubtfire. My head-canon for years was that Robin Williams' character was dubbing an older, pre-existing cartoon (from a smoking-friendly era) into English... ...but then I watched the movie recently and the lip-sync is way too exact to be another language... ...so my NEW theory is that he's simply replacing the voice of another actor (e.g., Tim Curry's version of Joker in Batman TAS) So there... movie's perfect now. 😄

I was in the same boat as you guys, where I was in my late teens when it came out and just never saw it until now. Unlike you guys, I quite enjoyed it but I can just let it wash over me, without having to make a 6 hour podcast covering it great detail. One thing Bob mentioned at the end was that it would rank lowly in the Disney Renaissance-era films. I know you guys are against the listicle in general but I'd be interested in both of your top tens for these movies once you've given the all the "What a Cartoon" treatment. Maybe it could be a segment in "Talk to the Audience" and it might entice a few people to upgrade to the $10 tier.
