Our small scale tests keep failing… (Patreon)

So for the resin sword, we wanted to do an elemental theme (like we did with the Lava Axe) so this time the theme will be… air! We are gonna try to make resin “clouds” and have the sword look like a slice of the sky. But we have a lot of different “cloud” materials to test out (including paper clay, cotton balls, wool, and more!)

For our first couple rounds, we tried cotton balls and “paper clay” and we embedded them in little “test molds” we made that were the same thickness as our sword will.

They weren’t all bad, but none of them were perfect. The top left, paper clay that we had hardened in the microwave, was probably the best looking. It’s funny how dry cotton balls (bottom right) just soaked up the blue ink and turned invisible haha.

So we decided to get a material that was close to the paper clay - air dry foam. We bought 4 different types and one seemed to have promise, so we tested it out, and the clouds looked SO GOOD (our best yet!) We even made a bunch of extras thinking these clouds were “the one”

It’s blurry through the mold, but you can get a preview of how they looked when the resin was still wet. However, as they cured, they all floated to the top.

Womp womp. BUT we have another method we are gonna try… InTeRpReTiVe clouds made by injecting opaque white resin into the clear blue resin! I’m hopeful! -K
