Wellllll here's how the ring dishes from our million layer clay turned out. Specifically, 256 layers (left), 4096 layers (middle) and 1,048,576 layers (right).

They're ya know, ok looking. Nothing crazy. I mean the clay looks cool (especially 256, below!) but I wish they looked a little more polished.

Funny thing, after we recorded the Aftershow (which is why it's not in the Aftershow) we actually tested something out on the million layer one. We sanded the edges to clean them up (which worked well) and then we tried covering it in resin which... well just see for yourself:

Resin BEADS UP on clay!! This is it completely dry. It was totally not expected. It also cracked at some point during this process. But hey, now that we know how clay + resin behaves, maybe we can use this to our advantage in the future to give something a water droplet effect.

Anyways, in the end, even though the final product isn't as cool as we were hoping for, it doesn't really matter. The journey on this one was super fun and interesting for us, and it's more about that. Even my perfectionist self is totally ok with this :P

Hope y'all had a great weekend!

So glad to hear you’re going easier on yourself. A raindrop project sounds cool! Happy accident!

Oh my gosh! An ocean theme with the polymer clay and resin?! 😯😯
