I used to work for a homebuilder and had to do restorations for water damage - That looks like they just painted over it... You'd see a slight seam when they replace drywall. We always recommended having a cup of hot water + a small amount of bleach to pour down the attic drain pipe every time you change your filters to help prevent clogs. I'm working on ESP32+water sensors that I can add to my Home Assistant setup so that I can get notifications when leaks happen! You can find cheap sensors on Aliexpress. I'm going to put them around all wet areas, water heater, and this video added my attic drain pan to the scope! There's also an automatic shut off that you can install on your main water line (or over an existing shut off valve). My parents and parents-in-law have both had leaks in the last month!

Unexplained water is ALWAYS the AC! Fun tip for next time, if you cut the drain pipe on the AC near the evaporator unit and reroute the drain to literally anywhere else, you can use the AC while you get it fixed! We went through mystery drain clogs last year and at like day 3 I got tired of melting and figured to just route the drain as closely as I could and it was so much better than non-stop suffering. So glad you guys got through it now, but I feel all the pains, 100%
