The big molds arrived for our giant tungsten dice (wooo!) But before going straight to the final tungsten dice, we wanted to make a test one with a cheaper tungsten analog… brass powder. The reason we wanted to test making a full size dice was because we didn’t know how this new resin would cure being poured in large amounts with metal powder in it. It’s super fast cure… so would it have thermal runaway? Would the large amount of metal act as a heat sink? If we poured it in layers rather than all at once, would the layers be visible?

We decided to try pouring in layers because if we dealt with thermal runaway, we’d ruin the mold and we didn’t want to risk that on the big dice. We tried cold casting (brushing the metal powder on the inside of the mold before pouring) and decided that even though you could kinda see the layers, it was good enough for us! Plus ultimately we think the dice would be more balanced this way. -Katelyn

The layer lines almost make it look 3D printed, just super sized! I like it!
