Early Access: Dear Music Technology Brands (Patreon)
Content
THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH THE FINAL VERSION I FINISHED LAST NIGHT. THIS WILL GO LIVE IN A FEW WEEKS.
Hi all,
This video is literally not for you unless you happened to be in the position to be working with music technology brands, and then it is tangentially related to you, but still, this is really for the brands, baby.
The more I do what I do on YouTube, the more I feel like people and companies neglect to understand the amount of work it takes, which leads to an enormous amount of undervaluing of my time, energy, and worth. And not just me, pretty much all the other synthesizer YouTube people get approached with ludicrous expectations to promote people's new gadgets.
I've worked for free, and for gear, for too long. I've been a little baby mouse about it and tried to make friends with companies because I thought it was worth it to foster a friendly relationship with them.
If the person at the company is good to work with, we'll get along. But just because I'm friends with an individual, doesn't mean I can offer up my hours and energy for free.
I guess this video is my attempt to explain why it's better to approach all music tech youtube people with the expectation that they are worth getting compensated fairly for their experience and labor. I mean, fuck, when you hire me for a video you're not just getting me. You're getting the tens of thousands of dollars I've put into my craft.
Look at me, Morty. I turned myself into a business, Morty. Fucking hilarious, Morty.
