Jen, Diana Rigg (Tracy) is the perfect Bond Girl for a good reason. From 1965 to 1968 she played a British agent in the television series The Avengers. The role was very physical, smart and witty. and she could handle herself as a self defense expert. It is considered an iconic role - well ahead of it's time for a woman and she was famous world wide because of it. No doubt why she landed the role in OHMSS. Interestingly, Rigg is the second actress from The Avengers to play a Bond Girl. The first is Honor Blackman. She played Pussy Galore in Goldfinger. I love OHMSS. Please let the next Bond film you see be Diamonds Are Forever, staring your favorite Bondy, Sean Connery. It's very good. Don't waste your time seeing Never Say Never Again.

Here's some trivia that may interest you: Contrary to the movies, part of the original James Bond books formed a trilogy: First "Thunderball", which introduced Blofeld. Second, "On Your Majesty's Secret Service", in which Bond's wife Tracy is killed by Blofeld. And "You Only Live Twice", in which Bond pursues Blofeld to seek revenge. So it's a lot more personal than in the films.

Out of all the Bond actors, I think that Lazenby has the closest personality in real life to Bond. In an interview he confesses that he had no real prior acting experience and totally bluffed his way into getting the role on wits and some charm alone. Diana Rigg, on the other hand, was a well respected stage actress. There is a rumor that she didn’t get on well with Lazenby. Some even say that she would eat garlic before every kissing scene that they had.

I agree about NSNA. If you thought that he was phoning it in on YOLT, that’s nothing compared to his performance in Never. By this time, he absolutely hated being Bond. Connery was being harassed by the press wherever he went. Apparently, the tabloids published a photo of him on the toilet just to rub salt in the wound. They had to pay him an obscene amount of money to come back for NSNA. You can tell that he really didn’t want to do it.

Unfortunately I have no insight to offer, but I wanted to say how much I’m enjoying watching my Bond box set alongside you. I had not seen all of them properly before so it’s been fun sharing a first time watch. Please keep going with these Bond movies, I’d love it to become a Sunday tradition

Barry Hammock

Oh absolutely continue! Love this journey! Next is a seemingly tired Connery, but then on to the gadgets, cheese, and camp of the Bond I grew up knowing; Roger Moore.

I said it before and will say it again, I think this one is really underrated. It's definitely different and it has it's share of faults but it's a solid entry into the franchise. Fully agree that you should continue on. At least do Diamonds Are Forever so you can finish up all the "classic" Bond films. I'm not a huge fan of the Roger Moore movies but lots of other people feel he's the best, and honestly, favorite or not, any Bond is better than no Bond! With a franchise that's closing in on 30 movies it can seem daunting but I truly feel like everyone needs to experience each iteration of the character to fully appreciate the franchise. Each actor/era brings something new/different to the character. And you should know that Never Say Never Again is not a "real" Bond movie; it wasn't sanctioned by the group that owns the rights to the franchise and was essentially a self funded "revenge/ego" project by Sean Connery. So I agree with the others who say you can skip it.

So I have just finished watching OHMSS with you a enjoyed your company and energy with this movie my favourite Sunday. So just in case you were wondering the Lair in this movie is a real place, I know as I’ve been there in the late 80s for a meal. It’s called Piz Gloria in Switzerland and has some breathtaking views. Keep Bonds going! And your quite correct in the movies don’t follow the books written order OHMSS was the 11th book published in 1963 the same year as Dr.No came out.

Thomas Yanez

Yes, please continue the series. One of the things I like the most about this movie is that it sets the stage to explain Bond's relationships with women through the entire rest of the pre-Craig movies.

Thomas Yanez

As has been mentioned above, the movie release order doesn't follow the book order, but that doesn't really matter, since the movies, for the most part, don't follow the book narratives, either, except for loose inspiration. Pre-Roger Moore (plus "Casino Royale"), there are a few that are actually very faithful, but you're almost past that point now. Otherwise, in most cases, they are either completely made up, or they borrow some characters from the book of the same name (or in some cases, other books) and build a completely new story (or, in a few cases, pad out a very short story with new material.) The book version of Bond is a noir-style wrecking ball sent to interfere with the bad guys, sometimes in brutal fashion, to accomplish some behind-the-scenes goal that is important to the intelligence agencies on the "good" side. The movie version of Bond is the action hero saving the world again and again (for the most part).

ArsTropica

Dalton’s Bond came close to the book version. Craig’s Bond is the closest, imo.

Would recommend we continue the Bondy journey! Diamonds are Forever is a wacky one and Bond at it's campiest. I'm actually more excited to see if you take on Live and Let Die after that, Roger Moore's first. You mention you feel bad for George as who could have followed up the legendary act that is Connery. Well Moore is the one that proved that Bond could survive and thrive after Connery.

Just a small piece of trivia for you. When James was being taken to Draco's office, there was a cleaner. He was whistling the theme from Goldfinger.

British actress/model Diana Rigg was a 60's sexual revolution icon, she gave the mini skirt and latex body suits a big boost in popularity! 👗
