This was so intense. It gripped me right from the start and never let go. I think this is the only more modern war movie I've watched, what others should we check out?

Movie runtime: 02:24:19

Great war movies? (1) "The Beast", about a Russian tank in the 80's lost in Afghanistan. (2) "The Bridge at Remagen", gritty WW2 movie about pushing to the ragged edge. (3) "Heartbreak Ridge", Clint Eastwood as a marine sergeant training his unit, ending with the invasion of Grenada. (4) "Kelly's Heroes", Clint Eastwood war-comedy-HEIST movie.

This movie is based off a book of the same name by Mark Bowden, and definitely worth reading if you want a very detailed account of the battle (the movie is pretty faithful though they do mash a few characters together & move some people around, but nothing major). Alternatively, a YouTube channel called The Operations Room has an extremely accurate animated version of the battle (maps and all). They do really high quality visualizations of historical battles/events and have a two-parter for The Battle of Mogadishu. Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ApfDyeP7Zk Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH2rnvGWDuU We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson is another very good war movie, this one about the first "real" battle between US & Vietnamese forces. Oliver Stone's Platoon from 1986 is another extremely intense Vietnam era movie - a lot of it based on Stone's personal experiences in Vietnam.
