Gabrus (and everyone else), if you want to see the grittiest part of Naples, I highly recommend Gomorrah. There’s a book, a movie based on the book, and a TV series also based on the book. The TV series is possibly my favorite show in the world. I can’t think of another show that depicts a place the way Gomorrah depicts Naples.

This movie fuckin rules I woulda loved it as a kid. Mechs are dope

Matt Brown

Its funny theyre talking about air filters after a week of a 1/3 of the country breathing canadian forest fire smoke. I duct taped Merv 13 hvac filters to the intake side of a few box fans. Also cool to get the bts story on the ABZ instagram ad

Ben Rodgers needs a vintage Subaru Brat or Dodge Rampage. There should be a shit ton kicking around California.

I found an ad free version on archive.org. Not the best quality and no closed captioning but meets the minimum requirements. https://archive.org/details/robotjox

Wow... I was scrolling through Tubi yesterday, saw Robot Jox, and thought "I wonder when the Boyz will get around to this one?" I'm looking forward to this one. Some interesting personal life tidbits about this movie: -My mom shut it off shortly after we first started watching it (probably when the crowd gets smooshed), and imposed a rather short-lived ban against violent movies - even though this is technically a PG-rated film. I don't think it was very long into the ban when I walked in on them watching Alien 3, right as that one guy gets turned into pudding by the giant fan. -Throughout my early adult life, I YEARNED to finish the movie. On TWO separate occasions, I came across a person who had a VHS copy in their library, but both times the box was just used as a front to hide porn.

Love or hate Matt Kamm, we’re talking about him!

i do find you podcast very funny often

Gabrus nailed how our school at least saw rat tails. I felt like “cool kids” in movies and tv had them. But only the trashy kids at our school did it. So they always felt kinda gross even though they seemed popular somewhere

This show helped keep me sane through the pandemic and I’m forever grateful. Thanks guys!

If you haven't already listened to it, the Blood Meridian audiobook is fantastic. Highly recommend. The reader is phenomenal.

Me and my partner were watching the new American Gladiators Netflix doc and Branscome Richmond appeared on screen. I got excited and paused it so I could talk about the pod. She has a look that says "please shut the fuck up" locked and loaded for when I talk shit like this. Anyway, I watched this movie alone. It was a blast.

I saw a kid last week with everything buzzed short except the back of his head, which was to his shoulder blades. Like, the tip of that mullet is hair he came out of the womb with. Pretty serious commitment for a 4 year old.

Rodgers was really telling on himself this week that he isn't a fan of the Laplace transform. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laplace_transform

There was a guy a couple years above me in High School Band who had a Jedi braid. The story (or joke) I was told was his girlfriend broke up with him because he wouldn’t put out.

Alexander is like the Larry Bird of Robot Jox.

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

Oh this episode seems like the genesis of the new Action Boyz Instagram ad! “It’s not a meeth”

Jack McReynolds

If you'd like to see the actual Saturday Morning Cartoon version of Robot Jox, might I suggest Mobile Fighter G Gundam. It's essentially a world tournament for control of Earth and all the Gundams are heavily inspired by cultural stereotypes. Also del Toro straight up stole the entire piloting system from G Gundam and put it in Pacific Rim.

Please support my Kickstarter. We’re raising money to provide toupées to the underprivileged Newcomer population in Alien Nation.

Do y’all remember when Sting came into the ring with his white NWO shirt on, and Hollywood Hogan and the Giant got all excited, and then he close lined Hogan and body slammed the Giant and tore off his white NWO shirt and it was a red NWO underneath.. and that meant he was a part of the Wolf Pack… man, good times.

Forever War is a fantastic book.

With my family for the fourth having to hear how funny Sebastian Maniscalco is from 20 different people every day … ughhhh

Eugenio Triana

Stanger was in onyx the fortuitous? Isn’t that the director that does his own puppets from scratch?

Hey, freak from Cleveland here, don't have anywhere but here to put this down before it leaves my mind. Relistening to the Howard the Duck episode and they start to wonder about smog checks in Cleveland. We have a system in place, we just call them e-checks (the e is for emissions) but they only apply to cars made within the last 25 years or something like that, so if you have an older car like me, it gets an automatic pass. Thanks for the show!

Martin Degrell

Never heard of this movie before doing a deep dive into Stuart Gordon a couple of years ago -- it's pretty fun. The other Gordons are hit-and-miss but I do enjoy his Brian Yuzna collabs ("From Beyond", "The Dentist", etc).

I was obsessed with both the Alien Nation movie and TV show. In the show, the men carry the children, but after the female transfers the fetus to his pouch and then he brings it to term. I seem to remember a third gender is required for a couple to have a baby.

The Flutie Flakes thing in Buffalo was real. I was at UB at the time and working at the Tops supermarket just off South Campus at the time and people are trying to buy 20 boxes at a time. We set a 2 box limit and people freaked out. I had to be the Flutie Flakes cop and it sucked. People would linger in the cereal aisle waiting for the restock. Good times.

The weekend I had a rat tail in the 80s, was the same weekend that I went to an indoor monster truck rally featuring Big Foot. My dad cut the rat tail off the next day.

AFistfulofGwildors

One of the first movies I had to torrent 20 years ago when I couldn’t find a copy locally, holds up way better than I remembered 🫡

Scott Tammel

The fucking Alien Nation talk was spot on. I feel like the show was on all the time in the mid 90's during the summer and it always bummed me out. I may be misremembering but I think they just ran this non stop to fill airtime when they Launched FX on cable.

B. Traven

No upcoming movie clues this month?

khajimak

There’s a car museum in Hershey, PA that has a huge Tucker exhibit, I haven’t seen the movie so not sure if it goes into it, but they also built/designed a tank for WW2 that never saw the light of day, and the museum also has some movie cars including one of the buses from Speed.

I wonder if Tex was the inspiration for John Goodman’s character in Barton Fink 🤔. They only came out one year apart and have a similar degree of artistry. Who knows…

Stanger keeps referring to Joe Haldeman as "Halderman". smh

The most annoying thing for my parents with my rattail was getting a haircut at the military base had two options, standard and stylized, all I ever got was a standard cut but every now and then there'd be a barber who'd insist they had to pay the stylized rate because keeping the rat tail made it an "upgrade."

Anonymous

I’m guessing from other posts there is some rat tail discussion in this ep (want to watch movie before I listen). I had a kid in my HS who had a crazy waist length rat tail, but that was nothing compared to finding out that his parents both had them too. I’m sure he is also a listener.

Chabnormal

Whoa. Looking forward to that $10 tier. Still

The kid in my school that had a rat tail also had a mom that would show up blitzed to PTA meetings. He also brought grass in to class in the 5th grade. So yea

When i was around 9 one of my friends saw this movie and wanted to rent it for a sleepover. He thought the movie was called “Crash and Burn” because that’s what they say in this movie. Turns out “Crash and Burn” is a much different movie.

Will See

Hell yeah
