Hey ActionBoyz, Your listener from Japan here. I have some experience with the pro-wrestling (puro-resu) scene here since my brother (around 40yo) is a wrestler here and trained under Tajiri, who the listeners will remember from ECW and WWF Attitude Era. Tajiri’s signature move, of course, is spitting green mist (‘Asian Mist’) into the opponents face, temporarily blinding them—A tribute to the legendary Great Muto. One of the mysteries in the industry was where the mist came from, and whether or not Tajiri has it in his mouth the whole match or if he sneaks it in right before performing the move. It is no secret in his Dojo. Every match he fills up a condom with the green mist and ties it up. This stays in his mouth for the entirety of the match until he breaks the condom by forcefully biting into it. If you’re wondering why a condom, its for practical reasons—you can find them virtually every when on the road touring, and condoms are strong enough that they usually won’t break in your mouth until you purposely bite into it. Unfortunately I’m not a pro-wrestler myself, however, I did face Tajiri in a chicken wing eating contest. He kicked my ass. Can’t wait for the ABZ Japan tour!

Okinawa pro wrestling was one of the most fun things I saw in Japan.

Did the Boyz ever watch No Time To Die and weigh in on it? What are your thoughts on the Daniel Craig era of Bond movies? Casino Royale is my favorite Bond movie, so I was pumped at the beginning of his run. Quantum of Solace was fine. Not as good, but still enjoyable. But starting with Skyfall, they got their head stuck way up their ass about how important Bond's story is, and I just lost interest and became increasingly disappointed. I'm in the minority, but I hated Skyfall, and I consider it the worst Bond movie despite its objective quality. Sam Mendes and Thomas Newman are the worst contributors to the Bond franchise, in my opinion. I look forward to them getting back to the old formula and stop trying to make movies that are so goddamn precious.

Can I ask who your brother is? Long time puroresu fan (subs to NJPWworld, Wrestle Universe, and Stardom) I’ve been to Japan twice to see wrestling. Dragon Gate in Fukuoka in 2016 and Wrestle Kingdom 14.

I was re-listening to the Pumping Iron episode, and found those Greg Capullo art lessons from Wizard Magazine that Rodgers was talking about: http://www.armelimonline.com/uploads/1/2/6/5/12651186/81786503-75857898-wizard-magazine-krash-course-greg-capullo.pdf

Halfway through the Hoke Moseley series and I’m loving it. I know Miami Blues has this great reputation (and it is a fantastic read), but New Hope for the Dead just captured me a lot more with the sheer weirdness and focus on this racist loser detective who’s somehow kinda cool at times. My copy of Sideswipe is in transit, and I can’t wait to start reading. Thanks again Rodgers, for all the Willeford talk!

Favorite wrestler entrance music?

Dustin

I'm about to start The Way We Die Now and New Hope for the Dead is my favorite of the three I've read. It's structure seems to be different from the rest as well. I haven't had a good run of pulpy hard-boiled novels in a long time and A Man Named Doll really kicked it off for me again in a big way. Loving the book recommendations. I may try The Blade Itself next to mix it up.

Awesome! A man named doll was great. I saw that Jonathan Ames has another Happy Doll book (the Wheel of Doll) coming out this spring.

Can we cover the HEAT 2 novel in September?

What’s the craziest sibling rumble you ever got into over limited family resources you had to “share”, like having only one TV, brand name cereal coming into the house once a year, ect… btw, I tried to dip my toe into some other “highly recommended” action movie pod waters and all I can say is… lord please keep the Action Boyz safe, alive and healthy. They weren’t just bad, it was cringe!

We gotta figure this thing out (for everyone). What do you think about this statement?

I think they’re consistently the best movie pod period. Perfect chemistry and personality variances, never any guests, 3 hosts is perfect number, it all works.

When watching 10 to Midnight I was really taken by Lisa Eilbachers performance as Bronsons daughter, I found her character very charming and it raised the stakes for me at the end. Do you Boyz have any single performance that elevates a film like that for you?

Gabrus has high&mighty, Stanger has Dumbells, what would be Rogers' solo/ABZ-adjacent podcast?

Hey ABz, which action movie president would be the best for dealing with our shitty society right now?
