What are your thoughts on Columbo? I’ve recently been watching it and think it’s great. Peter Faulk is so good. It’s a format that’s lost to time, such a delight.

Picked up Antkind and was stunned and delighted to see my buddy's dad, the poet Larry Levis, quoted in the epigraph! Larry was a pretty obscure poet who was well respected by his contemporaries (I’m sure names like Philip Levine and Jack Gilbert are immediately recognizable to ActionBoyz listenters) but he remained mostly unknown to the world at large. Larry passed away when we were in high school and being typical kids we had no clue as to the brilliance of our shit-head buddy’s dad. It makes me so happy for Larry’s voice to be amplified through Charlie Kaufman. I keep thinking about how Charlie could’ve been introduced to Larry’s poetry and I wonder if there’s threads of Larry Levis in any of Charlie Kaufman’s screenplays. I encountered Larry’s work in the wild for the first time in a writing class at UConn which prompted me to look up his son, with whom I had lost contact after a stint in the Army for me, served concurrently with my friend’s time in county jail after being pulled over with weed and a gun. Larry was a bit of a wild man and his son, a writer now himself, was no different. When I looked him up he was living in Hell’s Kitchen right by Rudy’s Bar with the free hot dogs. His apartment building sat atop a hill that sloped down to subway tracks and he pointed out the creeping pile of black trash bags that he and his roommate had been dropping from their fourth-floor walkup out of sheer laziness. Recognizing how obvious it was becoming, they had begun swinging the bags so they landed a few windows over in a feeble attempt to direct the blame towards a clueless neighbor. The day I showed up, my friend was putting his mattress out on the sidewalk because of bedbugs and he immediately informed me he’d need my help picking up the new (used) mattress he was buying from a guy across town. Poets. Am I right?

I listen to Threedom, and Lauren Lapkus has brought up on 2 different episodes a story of seeing Penn & Teller when Penn lost his voice. Stanger basically had the same story either on action boyz or dumbbells. Does Stanger know she has the same story? I wish I could've let this go but my brain wouldn't let me, so now I'm posting about it here.
