Chapter 5

Kevin was sitting on the couch as the two women were looking down at him. Each trying to appear worried, however, Gene was the one who played her part the better. She was an actress after all.

“So…” started Kevin. “Do we really need to have a doctor coming?” he asked.

“Of course, we do, honey. This, whatever´s happening to you, we need to find the cause, and if there´s a treatment. Don´t you agree, Carol?” she turned at her.

“For sure. What… what if it´s contagious.” She covered her mouth with her fore-arm. But Gene thought it was kind of overacted.

“She´s got a point there. We need to have a professional opinion here.” Gene said.

“But, I… I don´t want anyone to come here and… and see me like this!” he felt weird, embarrassed even.

“Aww, don´t feel bad. The doctor´s not going to make fun of you.” Came Gene´s voice.

“Right, plus, they have totally no idea how you looked before, right?” Came Carol from behind.

Whether he liked it or not, it was going to happen. Kevin went back to his room, he wanted to be alone for a while. In the meantime, Gene and Carol finished with their plan.

“Ok, tomorrow, probably at this hour, I´ll come back with a “doctor”. I´ll send you a message to give you a heads up, ok?” Explained Gene.

“Sure thing.” It seems things were coming up great for Carol. Kevin was shrinking. Gene was ok. She even agreed his son needed a lesson. She was ecstatic. However, when could be the right time to let him know? Probably in another inch or two.

It was amazing what Gene could get with such a short notice. She sent Carol a message that night, letting her know she already had the perfect candidate. A woman, named Tracy. Who´ll be Dr. Anderson.

“Do you like it? Dr. Anderson?” Gene texted.

“Yeah, sure.” She replied.

Then she sent the next messages:

“Great. I´ll be there by 4:00 pm. I´ll make sure to let Tracy know what to say. This may be like some sort of “cast” for her.”

“There´s no real need to let her know anything about my son´s shrinking.”

“However, if we need to use her in the future, then we´ll have to give some more explanations.”

“But I´ll take care of that.”

This all sounded like a plan.

The next day came fast. Even with Carol´s inside rush. She was waiting for this. Things were about to change, but she never thought it would be in such an elaborate way. Part of her was worried about how she´ll explain this to Kevin, but with Gene´s help. This all came much easier.

But not for Kevin.

In his place, all the lights were off. He was laying in bed, in the darkness of his room. He was sad, thoughtful. He was worried, about the changes, about himself. He was going through something he had never heard about before. This was no flu, or sore throat he could heal within a week. This was serious.

“What if… what if this is forever?” he whispered as he stared at the ceiling on his room, what he could see by the dim light coming through his window.

This couldn´t be. But it was all real, as real as the four inches he had already lost. But he couldn´t let this affect him so much.

Gene, his mother, seemed worried, like any mother would. Nevertheless, he hated the idea to have some strange doctor coming by. If he wasn´t stuck at his place, he would´ve gone to the hospital himself. But he had a bracelet on his ankle, with a green blinking light he could see through his sheets.

He was frustrated. There was nothing he could do to avoid it, and the worst part was, he was not in control of anything.

Saturday morning came, and so did Carol.

She entered Kevin´s place and was surprised to see him, sitting on his couch playing some videogames on his 60-inch screen.

He couldn´t really sleep last night. He was too worried. He fell asleep by midnight and woke up by 6:00 am, when he realized he couldn´t go back to sleep, he simply woke up and searched for something to get busy.

“Good morning.” Carol said as she closed the door.

Kevin didn´t even bother to greet her back. Carol could see that coming, shame on her for trying to be nice at this point. But that shouldn´t be. It was time to tease him; tease him just as he always does to her. Only that she won´t be lurking at him or saying some gross thing to him. But she won´t be as kind as she always is.

“Ready for doctor´s visit… little guy?” she asked.

Kevin heard her, but unlike her morning greeting, he chose to answer this time. “Little guy? Seriously. You… you´ve got no right on calling me little.” He didn´t even bothered to pause his game, he just stood up and walked into her.

“Oh, and why not?” Carol replied. Standing tall. “You don´t seem as tall to me anymore.”

“Yeah, well…” she was right. Before, he could see clearly above her head. Now, her forehead was even with his eyes. If he looked straight to the front, he´d be looking right in the middle of Carol´s forehead.

Carol knew it. She was taller, and she was excited about it. She measured herself this morning. 5´6”, she had officially grown two inches. Now, Kevin only stood three inches taller than her.

He was puzzled, had he shrunk again? He was confused. He was sure she wasn´t that tall yesterday. He turned down at her feet, the same sneakers she always wore. He swallowed, and she noticed.

Carol could tell he was nervous, and she was not going to waste this chance.

“What´s the matter? Are you feeling nervous? Is it because of the doctor´s appointment you have or…” she approached to him, stood on her tip toes and, almost as tall as him, she said, “Or am I making you nervous.” She smiled triumphantly to him.

“N-nervous… me? Pffft. Come on, why would I be nervous?” he said, now really feeling more nervous and less mad.

“I don´t know. Maybe, since I appear to be less of a little push over you can tease and more of a taller woman… I could make you nervous.” She couldn´t admit she was growing. This could be very hard to explain, and suspicious.

“Yeah, right. The only thing that makes me nervous about you is… that sexy ass of yours.” He shifted his look into a wry expression.

Carol got upset. There he was, really not getting the point. But this man will not change, not without a little help of hers. With time.

“Ugh, men, you never change. But listen to me, Kevin. One of these days… forget it.” She´ll explain him later. Carol was really upset at the moment, and he was not the type that listens.

4:00 pm, the clock said it was already time. Carol was waiting patiently in the kitchen. Waiting for Gene´s message. But within a minute, the doorbell rang.

“Coming…” said Carol, hopping Kevin will notice his mother was here, and so the “doctor”.

Kevin went downstairs, not really wanting to be there, but there was no use on the doctor coming if he wasn´t there. When he went down the stairs, he noticed two things, the doctor was a she. A pretty, and tall-looking blonde lady; young and radiant. And he could also notice his mother was wearing taller heels today.

Gene wore the four-inch heels, boosting her all the way up to 6´1”, Kevin´s old height. He hated it. When they were even, he didn´t cared, but now, she was those four inches taller. He was leveled with her eyebrows, and his eyes would be looking straight at her lips.

“Hi, baby.” Came Gene´s voice, noticing how short he looked now. Of course, she wore the heels on purpose.

“Hi, you must be Kevin. Nice to meet you, I´m Dr. Anderson.” Came Tracy´s voice as she extended her hand.

The doctor was also taller than him. But not as tall as his mother. She was wearing two-inch heels, which made her 5´10”, just an inch taller than him. In reality, Tracy was 5´8”, really close to him, but not yet. However, her body was smoking´ hot.

She was wearing a lab coat, still, he could see her round, pronounced breasts, filling up the blouse she was wearing.

“Hello… doc.” He said.

Carol laughed from the other corner to his attempt of trying to play it as a stud. Trying to flirt with the “doctor” just because she was pretty.

Gene explained that this was Dr. Anderson, a woman who had studied this “illness” the past year. It seems it was a new disease, a very rare virus to get. Well, they were yet to define if it was a virus, or bacteria, or even some problem with genetics. However, she was there to check if this was the case with Kevin, to do so, she´ll have to run some tests.

The “tests” Tracy ran were… quick. She had no idea what it was like to be a doctor, so she just took her stethoscope and ran it through his chest, his back. Even on his throat, to “check his breathing”.

“Dr. Anderson” made it clear that he got it. But that there was no problem with it. This was treatable. Gene winked at Carol.

Gene told Tracy this will be a huge favor to her. And given the fact that she was still casting for her new movie, this could come very helpful to Tracy.

In the end, Tracy, well Dr. Anderson, prescribed Kevin some pills. Ones Carol already had.

“You must drink one every two days. No more, ok?” she said.

“That´s it?” Kevin asked.

“Yes. That´s it. Listen, your… problem it´s very, VERY uncommon. So far, there´s only three cases in the world. And, according to the notes of a doctor, a colleague, I read the other… last month. These pills will make sure everything´s fine.” Tracy said, playing her best doctor voice and trying to look at him as once would to a patient.

“I don´t… I don´t get it, fine? What do you mean by fine? What´s happening to me?”

“We don´t know yet. This… illness of yours is still being studied. So far, the other two patients are still under treatment.” Tracy replied.

“I thought you said they were three?” Came Kevin´s voice. Gene was starting to think that Tracy had lost it. She was improvising the answer to his questions, and she wasn´t bad, but she did say three. Even if she could come with a quick response, she wasn´t paying much attention to what she had said.

“Yes, three… with you, you´ll be the third case.” She saved it.

The whole doctor worked out fine. Now, Gene will go get the pills, or pretend to. And bring the bottle for Kevin tomorrow morning. And there was another thing, a special treat for Carol.

“Tell me… Dr. Anderson…” Came Gene´s voice, “Is my son going to need some sort of special care? I don´t know, a nurse, a caretaker?” she asked.

“Oh, right. Well, so far, he seems to be fine. I mean, he´s still… tall enough. But soon, I mean, hopefully not so soon, he´ll need someone to look for him. There will be times when he can´t reach, or he´s too small to carry something. There will be a need to hire someone to look for him 24/7, that´s for sure.” Her response wasn´t as professional as Gene would´ve wanted, but it did the trick.

“Oh, well, I´m already here…” came Carol´s voice.

“That´s right. This young lady has been assisting my son the last few weeks. And she´s been doing a GREAT job.”

“Well, if that´s the case, then I´d suggest you to hire her for more hours.” Carol took this as a chance to step in.

“So, let´s suppose he gets smaller… would that mean I´m… in charge? Like, he´ll have to do as I say?” she asked.

“If it´s for his health and sake, sure. You´re the boss.” Kevin couldn´t believe what the doctor had said.

Carol smiled at Kevin, with some eyes that said “gotcha”

Both, his mother and the doctor left, and on their way to the car, Tracy, braking her character, asked Gene, “So, how was I, good right? I mean, for someone who didn´t assist medical school.”

“Great, honey. You did great.” Gene spoke.

“Super. Although, I don´t get why we had to convince him he´s shrinking… is this like… a prank? He´s your real son, right?” Tracy said.

“He is, the one and only. And don´t worry, it´s just… a little game we have.” She wouldn´t tell her the shrinking was real. She didn´t even shared Kevin´s original height with her.

Even if Tracy did expect his son to be taller, given how tall she was. She didn´t really cared. Gene was happy with her performing, and that meant a lot to her. And it also meant a bigger paper on her movie. At least to her.

Now, Carol and Kevin were alone in the house. Again.

“Well, it seems someone´s not alone with this shrinking thing…” said Carol, taking advantage of him feeling down. But that didn´t last for long.

“And what´s it to you? Huh? Why would you even care?” he turned sort of red.

“Well, you´re right, I don´t care. But you should.”

“Why? Just because you say so?”

“No, because you´ll get shorter.” She teased.

“So what?! It doesn´t change a thing. I´m still your boss.” He said as he crossed his arms over his chest and turned away from her.

“Nope. Your mom´s my boss, you´re just the guy who lives here… the guy who´s shrinking.” She couldn´t help it, she was kind, but being mean sometimes, it was fun.

“Wrong! I´m your boss, and she´s just the one who pays you…”

“And that´s exactly what a boss does… at least the highest one.”

“Boss, employer, call it what you want. But I´m the one giving the orders here” he turned back at her. Frowning, looking slightly down to her.

“For now… and that´s only if I allow you.” Carol stood up.

“What do you mean?” He asked, completely annoyed.

“What I mean is… is…” she couldn´t help it anymore, she had to be sincere; even if that meant bursting out right now. “I´m tired of you! Your teasing. Your offensive comments on my body. Even if you “believe” it´s complimenting, no woman wants to be treated like a piece of meat!”

“That comes with the job.”

“It doesn´t! Even now you can´t see it, can you? But that´s fine. Things will change around here. I will teach you some proper manners.” She walked away, and just as she was about to leave the room, she added: “And that because I will be the one in charge. Whether you want it or not, I will be the bigger one, soon.”

Carol was mad, and she decided to leave before she said something she regrated. Like revealing his real reasons to shrink. And now, she left Kevin in the living room with an enraged look on his face. He could fire her, definitely, but he had other things in mind.

She says he teases her? Well, let´s make it true. If she believes he´s teasing, she´s got no idea what she has coming. He´ll mess with her, in an annoying, sometimes immature and sometimes mildly sexual way.

Carol´s plan was working. Now, he won´t only be having his pill for sure every two days, he´ll be taking it directly. No need to hide it, disguise it, he´ll drink it was if it was some sort of aspirin.

She was thrilled. But mad too. Kevin was hideous. Stubborn, annoying. She just wanted to slap him. Once she was truly bigger than him and he was begging her not to. But she really couldn´t. Gene had her own rules. But she won´t make it any easy for him.

This was the first crash both had, well, the first clash they had to stablish who was in charge. And even if he didn´t like the idea, she´ll be the one in charge.

Carol had Sundays off. Great for her to have a rest, away from Kevin. Asides of being annoying, he wasn´t really unhelpful, in fact, any thing he did, just gave her more work.

When he eats, she cooks; when he finished eating, she washes the dishes; and she cleans the bathroom he takes shits on. This is really a nanny work. But she can change that. What if he cooks, for once. What if he cleans his own dishes? Things will change.

Carol came back to his place on Monday. And yes, he was shorter. 5´8”. He just lost another inch during the weekend. All thanks to the pills Gene gave him, the ones she picked from Carol´s place.

Both had to plan everything well ahead. And it will seem very suspicious if Carol was the one who bought the pills for him. Yes, she was his “assistant” and she did pick up all of the groceries. However, Gene needed to spend more time with his son. And with time, she´ll do it.

Gene really had no idea where Carol lived. Yes, Carol´s address was written on the curriculum she gave her, however, she didn´t paid much attention to it.

Gene did said Carol lived too far away from Kevin´s place, and that the neighborhood didn´t seem so… friendly. For someone as wealthy as Gene, Carol´s apartment seemed… small.

But Carol was fine, she was single and didn´t really needed much space. For now. With her pills, it was just a matter of time before her perspective of things changed. One day, something she completely ignored; more like didn´t paid much attention to. She´ll need bigger stuff.

Carol had some pills as a courtesy. Something a bit strange, but she couldn´t complaint, being taller felt good. But she didn´t want to get too far, she said that as soon as those ten pills she got were done, she´ll be done to. Right?

She was really liking it, Kevin looked so short now. Yes, he was still taller, but just by two inches. And by tomorrow, it may be just one inch.

She kept track on her growth, as well as his shrinking. Gene wanted to know how Kevin was doing. It seems she´s growing two inches per week. And he, now on that regular dose, is shrinking the same amount.

“Well, someone´s late.” Declared Kevin as Carol entered his place.

“Oh, yeah. Sorry for that, but this protein bars you wanted me to pick on my way here, they´re kind of hard to get.” Carol explained. Kevin sent her a message, as well as a mild money transfer. He was out of protein bars, so he wanted her to pick a box before she got there.

“Sure.” He said as he just grabbed the box from her hand and walked away. He wanted to work out. He could be shrinking, but that didn´t meant he couldn´t keep up with his normal life, well, his new normal. Besides, keeping himself busy really helped him get off the fact that he had lost another inch.

“You´re welcome…” Carol said as she thought Kevin needed to learn some manners.

But it could be much easier if she was taller. That way, he´ll be following the bigger one. Who knows, maybe things could work easier for her. Nonetheless, she ignored one thing, his plan was to make things harder for her.

In fact, those bars he sent her to buy, this was the first time he had them. He only asked for them because he knew they only sold them in three places around the city.

“I wonder how these bars taste like…” he took a bite, and they were ok.

Kevin shew-up as he wondered one thing. Carol. Did she seem… leaner? Yes, her neck did look a little thinner, or maybe longer? But that couldn´t be the case. He was sure she looked the same. She filled up her jeans the way she always did. Tight on the thighs.

Kevin never wasted a chance to look at her. She was quite attractive. But he only checked her out, he wasn´t paying real attention. Else, he would´ve known she´s taller.
