TL;DR I also make apps and 2D/3D games, most of which are functional but need better art, of which I'm working towards merging my art and programming skills in time.

I'd like to start sharing progress updates on all the apps and video games that I'm working on, though I want to make the alpha builds I'm working in more presentable that just a bunch of empty textures and minimal gameplay. For now, here's the current progress on my smallest project: Matter of Perspective.

Matter of Perspective is a size comparison app that will focus more on helping you understand the size difference between multiple characters and/or common objects and famous structures/landmarks. At the moment, the alpha build allows you to insert two height numbers (in metric or imperial units, with an adjustable magnitude slider for extra small/big values) and show to you how it is each character perceives the other character as if they were still their normal height. Extra small/big values can be prefaced by typing an "e" followed by a number to set the exponent (x10) to.

For example, here I am entering two values between the characters (2cm and 190cm). At 0:18 and 0:52, the blue value on the middle left shows that the 2cm character perceives the 190cm character as being 533.3ft / 392.4m. In the future there will be a menu with common objects and famous structures/landmarks that are around that perceived height to give you and understanding of that character's size.

There is currently a system that allows you to replace the character sprite with any sprite of your own, though the way of accessing it is not as user friendly as I would like, so it needs some polish.

Plans for the future include:

  • Generally better visuals and user experience
  • Insight into the perceived size of key body parts and interactions (power of body abilities (breathing, clapping, walking, etc) and what effects that degree of power can do on common objects/people).
  • Menu with the objects/structures that is easy to access and organized.
  • Ability to save height values and favorite objects/structures to reference.
  • Safe-proofing inserting extra, extra long values that computers don't like; converting them into smaller notation.

Currently, I am primarily programming in Game Maker Studio 2, which I have been working with since 2018. I have a small amount of experience in Unity, and have plans for 3D/VR games in the future (which I have already messed-around making, but nothing noteworthy. I am planning on becoming more proficient at Blender and rendering 3D content first before then).
