Whaaaaaat I have an accent? Here's a video I filmed for an accent-tag challenge!
This is how I speak when I'm in the north of England (where I grew up!) This will probably come as a shock to everyone watching who doesn't know me in person. So, why do I speak differently in my ASMR videos, you ask? Well, here's why!
1. When my family and I moved to the UK from France, we were the only foreign family in my town (bearing in mind we're talking the 1990s in northern England). The other "foreign" families there were 3rd or 2nd generation Chinese or Indian. I didn't meet anyone truly "foreign" until I went to university.
2. At university, I got heavily involved in a lot of international clubs and I also helping some students with their English - but I had a strong northern accent and many people didn't understand it
3. Many Filipinos seem to change their accent depending on who they're talking to anyway, so I guess I've been doing this all my life haha.
4. Also when I was teaching in Spain, my boss said that I probably should try to speak to my students with a more standard British accent, otherwise my students might not be able to understand me or might learn the wrong pronounciation lol.
Since I started my channel when I was living in Spain, I just carried on speaking with that accent on my channel lol.
